Default Poser Scaler plugin for ZBrush 3.1 (Mac version now available)

    PScaler.jpg

Poser Scaler provides an easy way to scale Poser OBJ files on import and export so as to reduce rounding errors.

    Update 11/26/2008:
A new - faster - version of this plugin is now available for ZBrush 3.1 PC and ZBrush 3.12 Mac. You can get it from the Download Center.

    INSTALLATION

    The zip contains:

    PoserScaler_readme.txt
    PoserScaler.zsc - the plugin file
    PoserScalerData folder - data folder

Unzip the zip file to your ZStartup\ZPlugs folder making sure the folder structure is preserved. The PoserScaler.zsc should be outside the PoserScalerData folder; both should be in the ZStartup\ZPlugs folder.

Restart ZBrush. You should now have an Poser Scaler subpalette in the ZPlugin palette, with a PoserImport button, a PoserExport button and a ScaleFactor slider.

    INSTRUCTIONS

Set the slider to the ScaleFactor you want to use. The setting will be preserved between ZBrush sessions. Press the PoserImport button to import; the PoserExport button for export. For import options (such as Merge or Weld), first select the PolyMesh3D and then choose the desired settings in the Tool:Import submenu before pressing the PoserImport button. For export, set the options in the Tool:Export submenu for the mesh you wish to export, then press the PoserExport button.

Many thanks to LadyLittlefox, ghonma, bevans and EddyLoonstijn for testing the plugin; their help is appreciated.

I hope you find PoserScaler useful.

Thanks again, Marcus, for the PoserScaler. I posted this morning my testing-answer, but I see that you have already mastered the bugs of the first version.

Now finally I can do Poser MT work in ZB3!
    Greetings, EddyL

I've not actually tried a Poser figure in 3.1 yet, but I've seen the discussions about the problems so I'm pleased there is a solution to it. As soon as I saw you reply in one of those threads, I knew you'd fix it somehow.

    Cheers, Marcus.

Wish to thank you on two levels.
    1. The usual, standard, thank you for all your hard work thank you.
This is the one that I have pretyped and just submit every few days.
After awhile the depth of my gratitude probably becomes boring to read
so ignore it , but remember it is there.
    2. This is a new type thank you that I have wished to do for years.

Poser, to some, is a joke and hardly worth a mention anywhere here.
Yet, many, many people both amateur and professional own and use
    this program.
(Again the word ) Many, use it for their very livlihood.

Two very professional programs, Vue and Carrara have facilties for importing
    Poser scenes into their programs.
There are add-ins sold for Maya and Max,whose sole purpose is to get
Poser scenes into their respective programs. By the way these add ins ain't cheap.
Both Content Paradise, and Daz make a very good living selling to
    the Poser user

Yet, on this forum ,the mention of a problem with a poser model or God forbid
the submission of a work involving a Poser model is treated as something
akin to handshaking with a leper.

So my thank you is this.
I have not dowloaded or used this plugin yet. I will do so after I finish this
thread ( hopefully this week )
I am very grateful for Zbrush and to you personally for recognizing the
existence of this program and it's many users and for finally providing something that they can use.

I might also add that Poser users represent a large market share.

    This is great, Thank You!

Can somebody post a simple 1,2,3 for using this filter and Poser 7? Especially for Full body Morphs.

    Cheers!

I had heard that you could use Objaction Scaler to overcome many of these issues, but that you've taken it upon yourself to actually make this a simple button press in ZBrush, well, that's just awesome.

    Thankyou. It is most appreciated.

By the way, are there any tutorials anyone knows of for applying full body morphs made in ZBrush? All the ones I've found are overly complicated and/or invole saving a new or otherwise editing the old CR2 file to create a new figure!

[EDIT] Okay, I've just looked through this forum (something I wish I'd done a while ago) and there are good tutorials here on how to do Poser morphs with ZBrush. I downloaded DakEdge's Poser-to-Zbrush-to-Poser video and that looks a lot easier to handle. Thanks to him. [/EDIT]

Thanks again for making it a little less daunting to try to make a Poser Morph in ZBrush.
