    Default A Devilkin: "Greenfury" (WIP)

One of my first few successful 3D model. This was meant to be one of my characters but turned out to be a practice run for sculpting muscles. Advice (especially techniques and tips) are greatly wanted as I'm still 17 and assuming I'm still young for 3D.

I needed to ignore the detail of head coz I started off using zspheres so not exactly the correct topology to model the head effectively. On top of that, besides exporting a basic head model from an external package, I dont know how to use zspheres to get an appropriate head topology if that's even possible.

I realise I need more idea of feet and palm. Some parts of the muscle are not neccessarily realistic if you can spot one, the muscles are more imaginary just to see how my skills are going. You'll have to excuse the lighting, I needed to experiment different lighting settings. Thx guys

    Good practice!

You can find lots of help on using zspheres for anatomy here:

    Thx Marsyas, it encouraged me.

And so becoz of that I have added the head model of the model plus my first successful texture. All of these were practice runs so I did the best I could to get a decent look of what I wanted. The textures on the head are the textures I also want for the body where muscles are glowing green and edges are blackish.

I'm curious about the best technique to combine the head and the body without disturbing too much of its geometry and texture. I also tried to achieve glowing effects on the eyes and side burns so it will be a glowing green effect. Any help is greatly appreciated.

All of the head process took a day, I guess too quick since this is a practice run. Again, advise are greatly wanted.

    Glad to help.

I don't know a good way to combine the meshes in Zbrush. You might have to try another app for that.

There's a glow material in Zbrush too that will render a glow in best render mode.

Default Glow material + Basic material

Thx for the info Marsyas but now I'm having difficulty getting the best result out of the Glow material.

    Screen.jpg

I'm having so much trouble on trying to get rid of those visible jagged edges of the glow material and trying to get very smooth color transition between darkish green and bright green due to the material transition. I tried most of the settings and this is probably the best I could get so far. I'm trying to achieve the impression of "Internal Fire" where several glow spots appear on most of the face and with various glow amount. So if there's anyone that have done this before or have ways I havent known plz tell, thx guys.

The shader has to have the same basic attributes as the base material. Try pasting the shader attributes of your base material into one of the generic double/tri/quad shaders and paste the glow shader into the first shader spot of the new material. That might fix the problem.

I would just paint those edges out after you render it, you might be able to get blend out by using a few variations of the same material, but I think it would be allot easier to just paint it out after you render it. You can do it right in zbrush or in photoshop, a little clone and blur and paint brush should do the trick.

That jagged edge is likely caused by the color bump attribute of the basic material you're using. Make sure the second shader (S2) of the glow material has the same color bump setting as the basic material (or just copy the shader from the basic material you're using and paste it into the 'S2' slot of the glow material by using the 'CopySH' and 'PasteSH' buttons at the bottom of the shader).

Also, make sure the color transitions are feathered rather than abrupt between the materials. Then make sure 'DSmooth' in the 'Display Properties' of the tool is set to '1' and crank up the 'DRes' a bit if necessary to have the transition smooth out when you exit 'Quick 3D edit' mode for final rendering.

I've attached a simple Zscript which might help. Be sure to turn on 'Show Actions' and '&Notes' in the Zscript menu if you're unsure of any particular action.

An updated version of Devilkin with few changes of the model. Thx, Marsyas & Harmonic for the info but looks like all I had to do was copy base shader and paste to glow shader :P.
