Hi everyone and thanks for the birthday wishes. I usually ignore my birthday and let it pass unnoticed.Don't think I have ever had so many Bday wishes.
KarimZ,the highlights are a bit strong on the eyes I wanted to make sure that they were extra wet looking I should actually add a little wet line on the lower lid.
Arturo, yes it's definitely a lot of the different apes that I have done in the past combined. It's a Baker ape after all.
Fishadder, interesting chimp photos that you have that light one on the right is really cool. Do you know anything about him? I wasn't really going for a chimp with this guy just a nonspacific made up ape. It's more gorilla than chimp, but colored much more like a chimp because they have much more fun" paint jobs". I really like the brow on the one second from the left on the bottom. Makes me want to change this guys brow. When I positiomed it into a sad pose I lost some of the bone structure .I'll have to fix that.
I just turned on the TV the other day and saw myself killing Kong. Even I don't recognize myself without the beard and with the hood and goggles on.
It was fun to do though.
Simon C, Yes it's a variation of a Nagel brush. I learned a lot about making brushes in PS by dissecting what he has done.
Shinichi, How are things in Japan. A bunch of my anamatronic work is going there for an exhibit early next year I may go as well.
BlackCrane, I liked your birthday gift, I'll take 5 stars anyday
Again thanks everyone
Better call the fire department that looks hazardous. Thanks Voodoomonkey,
where did you get that photo, I didn't think that I owned a jacket like that.
It's amazing what you can do in Photoshop
Copy and paste Tada! Instant make over. But seriously though, watch yourself when blowing out those candles.

GORILLA
Hey, happy birthday Rick!!! Mine is in about 3 weeks.
Keep rocking,
-Kris
She's a stunning brown chimp with a wonderful nature and lives at Twycross Zoo in the UK. I've never seen such a pale chimp and you can see lots more fantastic shots taken by the person who adopted her I think here :

The Zoo was famous for providing the Chimps for the Tea commercials way back which they thankfully don't do now and it has lots of rescued and endangered apes of all kinds.
I realised you weren't specifically going for chimp after I posted the pics because the nose is more gorilla so sorry bout that but I was most impressed by your skin detail which is amazing and really varied on chimps!

It looks terrific and I'm a huge fan of monkeys and rick baker....But it looks like a composite between the bone structure of a gorilla and a the coloring chimp. It looks awesome for a joe shmoe but lacks the Baker pinache and attention to detail especially in the specular. Stll looks great though!
Gorillas are apes not monkeys. In general Monkeys have tail, apes do not, although there are some monkey (though rare) that do not have tails.Originally Posted by grom

Although I do have a tail bone... does that count?![]()

grom, there is nothing I hate more than disappointing a fan, well actually I guess that I would hate getting my eyes gouged out more, or having my hands chopped off, and I hate man's inhumanity to his fellow man, so I guess there are a lot of things that I would hate more , but still, I always feel really badly when I have let a fan down. Sorry to disappoint you. Yes none of these images are perfect, I like to share the works in progress with my friends here on ZBC. These have all been really quick renders just to look at him mainly for my own purposes .I like to look at the stuff that I am working on at various stages of progression so I can see what I don't like etc. That is one of the many things that I like about working digitally. You can get your modeling done to a point ,slap some color on and see it looking more finished ,see what changes that you want to make and make those changes and so on. I know I like to see other's WIPS and see how they progress but maybe ,I don't know, maybe I should just post work when I am totally happy with it myself. I guess the problem there is if I considered it totally finished and then let a fan down I would be even more devistated.
Framedworld, There use to be a time in my life when I would get really bent out of shape when someone called an ape a monkey, but I guess I have mellowed in old age.
VVDFX, I can think of a few.
Please keep posting them as you go Rick, I learn from watching the process.
I have gotten a few comments on wips of mine that have made me cringe, not understanding it still had a long way to go. I keep posting though , as sharing and watching other peoples the process is important way for me to keep gowing as an artist.
Internet comunication seems to make all coments like this far harsher then they were intended.
