Smooth Mesh Beginner

Hi all i am new to Zbrush and I would like to know if anyone could help me out by telling me how I could get a smoother mesh because when I create mine it is always blocky and I cannot create a nose because it just points out like a spike and when i try to model the ears they are not seperate from the head and as if they are just stuck on the side of it.

  • Thanks in advance

Hiya … people aren’t ignoring you, but you’re posting in a very specialist forum which is all about creating scripts for ZBrush, not basic modeling. Post questions in the Main forum and you’ll get a lot more views and help.

Anyhow, your basic problem here is that you’re using a sphere to model your head, but with the ‘pole’ of the sphere where his nose is, and you’re starting out with too many polygons. When you first select the Sphere3D tool, before you load it, go into the Initialize palette and reduce the H and V Divide sliders to a much lower level than the defaults. Turn the tool into a polymesh tool, load it, turn on X symmetry, select the Move tool and start moving points to create a basic head shape. Then increase the mesh density a step and refine the shape further. Increase the density again and keep pulling and pushing points. And so on.

Do this basic procedure again and again (and again) and, over time, you’ll get better and better. There are loads of threads in the Main and Tutorial forums to help you improve your modeling. Good luck.

This is why topology is critical =)

I guess also D-Smooth 1 might help, and turning off quick.

its blocky because you dont have enough polygons.
hold the CTRL key down and press the letter D
do this once or twice.

the guy above was talking about the pole
just turn on the poly-frame to see
hold your SHIFT key down and press the letter F
now flip the pole to the top and the other will be facing the bottom
