    Default Angel Girl (Nudity)

Carmen ZPost.jpg First, I am not a natural English speaker, forgive me if I sound childish, imprecise or even rude.

I'm posting "Carmen", an angel who looks and never acts. Just puts you nervous. She has nothing inside: a black space.

This is my first finished model in Z and I have tones of questions for any patient reader.

    1. -does Zbrush accept UV Sets? - I did "Carmen" with UV Sets and I have to render each part one by one. Horrible. If it is not accepted, any solution?
    2. -could anybody explain about UV unwrap in Zbrush, or refer a link? Thanks.
    3. -how do you add props to a model? For ex., if I wanted eyeballs, clothes... for a Zbrush render (it's fast!). - and each piece with its own texture and material.
I've got more questions but this three are enough to start.

Congratulations to the Community, you are... em... wich word? active, generous.

Sorry cant help with the UV questions cause those are magical parts of 3D I know nothing of...but...if this is your first model, may it be the first of many. Solid.
Please post some more wires if you can, the model looks so good. I love it.

    To Giantsum:

-very very kind. I prepared some wires: you will see the wires of the base-mesh over the top-smoothed model (5 divisions). If you notice anything wrong about the anatomy, please, give me a warning. Female anatomy is challenging, specially if I try to avoid some stereotypes. (I forgot about the wings, but they are nothing special.)

    To Frenchy Pilou:

-Somehow? I didn't think about J.Roberts. Instead, I looked for some Natalie Portman's references, and I found the most valuable help through Angelina Jolie. (excuse my English) I did "Carmen" bald at first and I tried her to look quite young, not much, and femenine. Hard time. Angelina helped: ...the lips!

P.S.: Giantsum, I found an old picture with wings, I'm posting it. There are three other experiments apart from "Carmen". One is quite decent, I could post them... And I'm preparing a Disney-like Mama Zombi. P1peAlasMay.jpg

I think I like this type of wings better. Although it would be cool to see them skin colored. These kind of remind me of bat wings.

    1) ZBrush can not get UV sets. if im not mistaken, then the obj standard cant either. also make sure you only use 0,0 - 1,1 uv space.

    2) there is no unwrap tool in zbrush (no pelt map). the only special tools zb has are the GUV and AUV. both of them are nice, nothing more. and create problems down the road. I strongly recommend doing your UVs on a different soft (unfold3D is the best IMHO)

3)you can add as many objects to the canvas as you like. you just need to understand that once you switch to another tool, the poly information of the last object is translated to pixols. which mean you can not transform the object again or do anything to it as one object. however the pixols keep allot of info in them, including the Z and the material. there is a way of making many objects in to one using the marker but its to complicated to explain in here, search for it in the books.

Very lovely work. There is an interesting and enigmatic appeal to this one, almost evil, or mad, but still superficially sweet.

Umf. Surprising. Did I re-pos myself? (I should sleep a bit more)

To Giantsun: I typed your name incorrectly TWICE. Sorry.

To Frenchy Pilou: this is a fantastic link: so much helping tricks! Thank you.

To Womball: I'll try something, it's an interesting idea. At first, I thought about something between mineral rock and human skin.

    So...

    Back to the problem:

To Doron: not good news, but thanks for writing. I read something about GUV's and AUV's, but it was confusing. In your opinion, the best choice is to fight with UV's in the traditional way (Maya for me) and go back to Zbrush. Right. Then I'll try to study Pelting Tools:

    http://sunitparekh.com/pelting/

Some teachers and friends recommended it. I was looking for a shortcut. ¡Crash!

    Anyway,

    about modelling parts in Zbrush.

    The options are:

    1) joining the props in Maya...

    2) using multi-marker (gets me crazy to control situation: any clue?)

    3) making... what? a "flat" canvas in Zbrush? Just loading tools one by one... and placing them in desired position...???? But how can you control proportions in this option?

    4) I read something about adaptative skin or mutimesh... I even tried something but I lost definition.

    5) could morph target be an option somehow?

A few words- I have decided to post because I can find a lot of information (Offical Manuals, x ex.) but I don't know how to start. It's a bit hard for me to read all the time in English. I'm asking for a guide: just a link here or there for a precise explanation, or a graphical reference.

    Thanks.

To Twitchmonkey: ahm. Yes yes. It's easy to achieve this "effect" (I feel naïve): while modelling, I posed "Carmen" with the head turned a bit down. She would'nt look at you directly. Besides, she has no eyes*... And there are no wrinkles. It's impossible to know what she is thinking.

*Did you see the desing of Stitch (Disney movie: Lilo and Stitch). The creature has no eyes, just a black shape in there... Like old cartoons or some Burton designs. Look like masks.

well after 3 years of using zbrush I can say that it does best what it does best.
right now it is the best modeling tool there is. and that includes mudbox (I tried it allot). it is not a good scene builder and it is not a good rendered IMHO. so just stick to modeling texturing and mapping (not UV). maya and mental ray are by far greater tools for posing and rendering

    3) once you place a tool you can scale it before you "drop" it on the canvas. and you can also use the gyro to control its Z. many great project were made like that. check out Meats Meier DVDs and posts right here in ZBC for examples.

Fine. Thanks twice! I guess I have to think that Zbrush-software is a 2D - 2.5 way of creating images. A digital canvas, no more no less.

    ...The gyro, yes, of course.

(Might be the "Zbrush for Illustration" a good orientation...)

    not by a long shoot!

ZB is the best 3D sculpting tool there is. and it is being used in many productions pipeline.
Learning 3D from "Digital tutor" is the same as learning to be a pilot by watching plans come and go at the airport.
