Zbrush 103 Character Details

Here we go again.
This one is sorta long just fast forward though the stuff you already know.
I wanted to cover very general stuff and still have the mistakes in there so if you see a mistake that happened to you. You know why the mistake occurs.
Zbrush is such a huge program as far as all the little hidden tricks.
thats what makes it so fun, knowing their is no limits.

edit. its about 135mb for those wondering.

You have been reading my mind sir. Stop it. Just been searching for info on using alphas etc. Perfect timing.

Thank you

Mike R

what codec did you use to encode it? I have techsmith, xvid and divx installed and I cannot open it in media player :frowning:

In his other threads he says he uses the Techsmith codec.

Cheers

Well I learned a tip for smoothing. I also learned about radial falloff in the alpha pallet and how this stops square edges in my alpha painting without having to re-edit my brush alpha. Uvmapping tips as well its all here. Excellent stuff.:+1:

I also learned that cannedmushrooms is lucky to have 4gb ram so he can run Zbrush (with subdividing up to level 7)alongside Maya and Photoshop CS2, not forgetting IE and recording all at once. lol. Was waiting for it all to grind to a halt. :grimacing:

I will be keeping an eye out on any more tips you can share. Now I need to rewatch it all again to write down all the snippets that I learned and have now forgotten for future use.

Cheers and thank you

Mike R

Oh I meant to add be VERY carefull when using google image search. I went looking for images of insects and found some stunning references then I saw a beautiful green beetle listed. I clicked and had all sorts of porn coming up on screen. So be carefull if that kind of stuff offends you. Google image search is open to abuse by … I cant think of polite words or usable words for folks who con you into going to their sites without a choice on your part but you get the picture.

thanks a lot,it’ll help me

For WMV I believe there really is no codec driving it. Worst case I would goto microsoft and download the latest media player.
AVI and MOV use codes.

If there is any off intrest topics that might be cool to put in the videos post them.
This series will flow into a maya training series and then into a real game engine later on. I will be using the doom 3 engine and exporting the guys from maya then into doom3 to battle.
Doom 3 is open source as far as mods and some videos by other people have already been done but their not very clear.
This is for training of students in high school that are intrest in game design.
Real use of
local maps
Height Maps
Specular
and diffusion

I know eventually pixologic might not like me covering other software but I will be using Zbrush alot when it come to all the maps the characters use.

But anyway it will be awhile till I get to the game engine editing anyway

Not sure why you would think that using other software would frowned upon. I cant think of any top row images that did not involve a 3rd party app.

I would love to learn more about the material system within Zbrush. I know that it wont help too much outside Zbrush but although I own a 3rd party app for rendering I would still at the moment like to continue to use Zbrush for the entire image before going into exporting for other apps.

Well that my personal preference and from what I have seen so far you are the one to gell those tips and ideas in my mind.

Cheers for your help so far.

Can’t seem to get this link to work: http://www.jasonwelsh.com/trainvideos/zbrush%20103.wmv

Any idea’s

He has exceeded his bandwidth limit. Thats probably why you cant see them at the moment.

Cheers

Mike R

I have been doing this for awhile now and I have never seen it reach bandwidth limits.

I can’t even log into my own control panel .
Anyway when the link does become active again try right clicking the link as save target as. this way you download them instead of streaming them.

I’ll call my isp up monday worst case senerio.

we’ll it looks like my server has been upgraded for free YAY!
Looks like I was paying for a older business plan so they decided since I was paying for hardly anything they would upgrade me for free. Still going to Zip up the videos so they download instead of stream though:)

Quite slow, but downloading fine now, thanks mate

I grabbed your 101 Tut’ ages ago, in fact it was almost the first tutorial I watched after buying Zbrush. Helped me work out just why meshes constructed from Zsphere were so warped looking!

I have to say, you’re certainly at least as good as any of the commercial learning DVD producers out there, and compared to some, way better! I seriously think you could make a living from this.

Anyways, much appreciated :+1:

Someday I will be able to go pro. Sponcers are very hard to come by:) I was thinking of actually Making a full length DVD after I’m though with the series. Still keep the videos free in this forum and give the option of buying some kind of high Def DVD at a very low rate.

I just hate the idea of exploiting peoples curiosity. I remember when I was a kid and some big huge name in the industry released some dvd at like 80$. I had a crappy computer and just enough knowledge to be dangerous. I will leave it at this, if it wasn’t for that dangerous knowledge I would never know half the stuff I know now. I’m going to stop now before somebody crys lol;)

enjoy the videos 104 was released last night

Hi

Great tutorial.

Interested in your references to Andrew Lumas and Burt Hogart.

Do you have a ny links for the material you mentioned, I have tried searching but without any success?

Thanks

Hi again

Its ok, yahoo is crap, long live google.

Thanks

Andrew Loomis, and Burne Hogarthe I think is the way it’s spelled, Hogarthe has out books like Dynamic Anatomy, Dynamic Figure Drawing, and some others, I highly recommend both authors…!

Andrew Loomis you can’t buy his works anymore, or its very hard, there are some links somewhere on CGTalk for all of his books to download.

the good works

great stuff, thank you.
