    Hahahaa! That's good...

Well, I'm glad you like him Pete, I do my best on every model, so it's not like I just slammed the guy out to get to the next one, but I just really wasn't feeling the character. I do think the model looks pretty good for what the character is.

Right now, though, I'm looking forward to getting on to the hellknight. He's gonna be hard, but I'm probably gonna give him a bit of a redsign. All that armor is definitely gonna be a challenge for me, but I think I'm up to it.

Oh, and Abe, anytime you wanna give me some suggestions on any of my work, I'm all ears. You do some great, and inspiring work. I'd love to get your input on the rest of these guys.

Just like pete, i cant really remember monsters from quake1! it's been ages since ive played that game so cant really remember the monsters and how they look ingame
completely forgot it was a flying monster..thought he was a reptilian kind of beast
make more sence for the tail then!
Thanx replika, ill be glad to help if my opinion can make your already great looking models any better
been ages ive not done any drowing tough, spend more time on the modeling side the last few years so my drowing skills are a bit rusty :P
Your lowpoly model looks really good with the normals!cant wait for the next..wich one will you start?

I understand, man. I forgot how many monsters were in the game, that there were knights, and tarbabies, and zombies in there too. All I could remember was the Ogres, and the Wizards. It's an old game, and memories fade about that type of thing. Still, that drawing was awesome. If I could make a boss, that would be him.

I'm gonna start the hellknight today. That's probably gonna be one of the harder characters for me to model, so I wanna get it done while I'm still fresh. This is a shot of what he looks like in the game.

    hknight.gif

This one will probably take more planning than the others, and I'm gonna give him a slight redsign. He'll be fun to make, so I wanna get started right away. I forgot how diverse the enemies were in this game, lot's of different types running around, helps me not get too bored with the project.

Anyway, I'm off to start the model, wish me luck.

    GOOD LUCK then!
this is an awesome character to play with! i'd love to do monsters like that! bored with realistic stuff
if only i had a computer at home, i would do my version of the wizard and this hellknight and compare it with ures...guess will have to wait until you can post some screens
can already imagine all the detail you can put in his armore...was playing on zbrush and did a quick knee pads to try less organic modeling and now i know i would love doing armors (monsters in armors would be heaven

Damn, Abe, I couldn't get armor to look that good in zb if I spent all day on it. The straps are really cool looking. Seriously, I've been trying to get armor to look good in ZB since I started using it, and I still find it hard as hell to get right.

Well, right now, I'm trying to get the zspheres to work. Everytime I try and make the face, I get a flattened out mess, and I don't know why. The edges that make up the eyes cross sides, and look awful. I'm reading the thread started by Jason Belec, and I'm trying to understand some of that stuff, but nothing yet.

Anyway, I'll post a pic when I can. (and by 'can' I mean when it doesn't look butt-ugly)

hehe..thx it's easier to get this result than you think! you need to ruffly make your shapes (holes mainly) and use the pinch tool here nad there to make some hard edje..that's it really, im playing with cloth now...zb is really a great tool! takes me few minutes to do things that would take weeks with a normal modeling methode :P
concerning your zsphere problem is there anything to do with extra sphere added? the same kind of thing happend to me as well and it was hidden spheres that ****ed up my mesh....i guess putting some screenshot would help peeps have a clearer idea on the problem ?
concerning your character, im sure you're a bit hard on yourself! things you posted looks great so far!! way above what most of peaple post on forums

I think for this one, I'm gonna stick mainly to Max. I know what I'm doing in Max, and can make it a lot faster. I will be giving ZB a try on some of this stuff, so I can try again to make armor. I've got some idea for armor decoration that ZB would kick ass at, but I'm not too sure about it yet.

I wanna take this hellknight in a sort of, Simon Bisley direction. In fact I got a pic he did back in '96 that's pretty close to what I want. Of course it won't be a direct copy, just inspired by. The attatched pic is what I'm talking about. Maybe I'll add some Raven Spawn to him too... I don't know, so many choices!!

Alright, I got some of the low-poly finished. There's still a LOT of editing to go, and he will NOT look like this in the end, the high-poly will add a lot of **** to him. I just thought I'd update with a progress pic.

    More updates later...

Ok, I've been trying to get something that resembles armor in ZB, and keep it at a reasonable polycount for import to Max, and I just can't get it yet. I will difintely have to stick to Max on this one. When I get some free time, I'm gonna dive into ZB, and get some armor to look decent.

Ah well, backto what I know I guess.

i know you're going to do more but just a note.. he looks like a super hero rather than a baddie right now. watch out for that as you go.

Yeah, I see what you mean. I think at least part of it might be the way the helmet nose guard goes across the bridge of the nose, instead of covering it. Kinda like Captain America/Daredevil/and the majority of Marvel comics guys. I'll fix that. Like I said, though, I'm not sure this will be the final version of the guy.

On a plus side, I'm starting to get used to making at least breastplate armor in ZB. It's going a lot faster than I thought it would, and it's kinda fun to just go in and model instead of trying to make all the edges line up perfectly, extrude, crease, repeat... One thing that's been helping other than the pinch tool, is a smooth tool with a VERY low focal shift, like -80 to -100. It lets you smooth out some of the areas that need a naturalistic curve, but keep a crisper edge.

I'm learning, so maybe the rest of him won't be so hard. I'm gonna get the base design done in Max, and take it into ZB to bust it up a bit. I knew this guy was gonna be fun

I really appreciate the, Odhinn. A good work ethic is a very big deal to me, and it's really cool when someone else notices the effort.

I will have more pic updates for you guys tomorrow, I would have had some tonight, but I closed out ZB without getting a render first. You didn't miss much, as I'm still laying out the armor design right now. The breast plate is coming along nicely, and I'm really starting to like ZB for this stuff.
