    Default Hi

    Hey Chad,

Looks great, was thinking about re-creating one of the pirates from the original movie myself and after seeing this, it looks like a lot of fun so I think I'll have to set that as my next project.

Also, somehow, I think I recall seeing that your working in San Diego now as a cg artist. Congrads! I remember seeing your reel on CG talk a while back, very cool.

Well, can't wait to see more.

Thanks, I'm having a blast out here in California! Working in the industry is definitely a lot different than I expected, but I can't complain!

Taking a break from modeling for a while. I'm playing around with the color concepts of his skin. I'm going to be doing some SSS tests in XSI this weekend methinks. Should make the flesh a bit more translucent. Plus I still need to add a bump and spec map.

    Zbrush render:

And the Zbrush document for the lights and material settings.

Very nice chad, I've checked out your reel, how many polys do your models average, because you have some insane detail...

Thanks. Are you talking about the base cage, or the Zbrush sculpt? The base cage(s) usually range from anywhere aroung 3,500 polygons to 15,000 polygons. My Zbrush sculpts are generally around the 250,000-400,000 polygon range, but this guy weighs in at 1.6 million.

I don't usually sculpt that high-res of a mesh, mainly because I haven't done a lot of micro detailing yet. I could do one more subdivision level with this guy, but I don't think I need to. The rest can be done with a bump map.

I think this is a good start on the skin color but I feel that there needs to be a higher contrast between the muscle, flesh, and bone.

Most of all, I think it's the flesh tone. Too much yellow and should have more an algae tint to it since he's an ocean dweller. But then again I could be wrong.

Really diggin this thread and looking forward to those SSS tests. Take care.

Duly noted. I'm thinking that I need to desaturate him some too. Cool thing with doing things this way in Zbrush is you can easily change the color. I'll post some more ideas later tonight.

    Default Front page

Playing on the internet today (bored at work) and thought I'd do a little research on Silo. Googled it, found the wbesite and saw your Davy Jones on the front page. (http://www.nevercenter.com/)

I got a kick out of that and thought it was really cool. Well, hope things are going well. Later.

The B&W(Black and White) pic has more impact that the colored one.I think that this last one needs some correction. There are too many colors. The external skin seems almost some kind of cromature.

If I can say it,I think you should play with red and flesh pink cloors to give to the undead monster a "skinless" looking, with shown muscles and bones(and some vein too maybe it's not bad).

anyway all those words are only my impression if your purpose it's different....

For the modellation noth to say...see you my friend.
