    Red face Igrat WIP (nudity)

I know WIPs don't get a lot of attention here, but I thought I'd go ahead and share this one anyway. It's loosely based off of a design from Verotik comics Igrat character. It's more specifically based on the re-design a sculptor named Gabriel Perna did, not his style, but his design.

    Igrat_10.jpg

Software: 3DS Max, Zbrush, and a little photoshop.

I do plan on rigging, and posing her when the modeling's done, so I'll post that when I get it finished. Hope you like it.

Ah, Igrat! Wingbird has some extreme imagination if you ask me (not a big fan of the blood and gore, though). I hate having to give me input cos it's such an awesome model but at least consider my input.

    1) If I remember correctly, Igrat had larger jugs.

    2) She seems a bit skinny. Igrat was more voluptous IE fuller. Not totally rubenesque but more rounded and feminine than your model.

    3) Her face looks a bit too masculine. Perhaps if you softened the chin and jaw it would help. Plus I think she had a smaller mouth. But the fact that it is based on Manga, a little artistic license is OK, I guess.

Anyway, I can't wait to see the finished version. I hope you don't take my comments too personally.

    Cheers,
    Revanto

Wow, thanks! I'm glad you guys like her so far.

Revanto, I don't take your comments personally, I'll learn from wherever I can. I was actually going more from the Eric Canete version than the Wingbird. I've never been much of a fan of Wingbird, because everything is too round and smooth for my taste. Eric Canete's Igrat was sleak, powerful, and quick. Also a little man-ish, but I won't use that as an excuse. I know theh models face is a bit man-ish, I've tried softening the jaw line, and changing the mouth and brow's, but it hasn't helped. I'll keep working on it though. I see I never included a link to the sculpture I was basing my design off of, so I'll fix that now.
http://www.sculptorscorner.goregoregore.com/Perna.htm is a gallery of work by the artist, Gabriel Perna. The I grat sculpt is there, as well as Dalkiel, and Satanika. Really great stuff.

Oh, and for the breast size, yes, no matter who draws her, her breasts are larger than I have represented. I just don't like big breasted models, they seem too cliche.

DizzyBoy, yeah, I know the skin's a little weird, but I'm working on it. I'm really not very good at painting in ZB, and The only way I could get a displacement map out of ZB without it crashing was to use AUVTiles. I'll keep chipping away at it.

andreseloy, thanks, it's nice to know some people are starting to remember me.

Sebcesoir, no it's no poser model. I've made a coupleof base meshes, a male and female, and I've been seeing what I can do with them. It's actually very easy to use base meshes like that with ZB, cause I make any anatomy change I want at just about anytime. I love Zbrush.

Thanks for checking out my WIP, and I'll post some updates soon.

[EDIT] I just saw your post, Drummer, thanks for the comments. I'm really glad someone with your skills has remembered me.

    A quick update.

I changed a lot of stuff, though it might not be completely visible. I added a normal map to the wings since the displacement map wasn't giving me all the detail I wanted. I also changed her face to try and make it a bit less man-ish. Numerous other small changes were done that aren't really visible.

    Enjoy.

Nice work . I am glad that you have not exagerated the model in cliche ways. Base mesh and rendering in Max?

Yup. I like the control I have with Max's modeling tools for the base mesh. I've tried using ZSpheres, but I really can't get them to do what I want them to. I also like to layout uv's in a manner the let's me read them easily in Photoshop.

Here's another update. It's mainly just textures, though. Still working on them, but I'd like to know if there's anything else I can do with them? Anyone have any suggestions?

I'm starting to get the hang of painting textures in ZB. I painted spec and bump maps, and added some skin details. Hopefully, I can get better results with practice.

    Igrat_13.jpg

Obviously I've got a lot to learn when it comes to texturing, so I'm probably not gonna have a lot of updates while I try and learn and experiment with this model. I will post the end results, textured, rigged, and posed, though.

If anyone has some suggestions on making my textures (especially the skin) look better, I'm all ears. And it would be great if anyone who uses 3DS Max could point me to some basic shader settings to make better looking skin. Thanks all.

wel i think you should check the proportions of the model first, before starting with shaders and thinks like that...

Do you have something specific in mind when you say check the proportions? They look fine to me.

i figured u are going for a realistic model? if it´s like that, you should check some things like the shoulders are too large, the collarbone ( clavicle?) i think should be a bit lower, the hips normally should be a bit larger and maybe try to work a bit more the shape of the ribscage, it looks a bit odd now...i hope i can help you with that, im just trying to do some constructive criticism, and always having in mind that u are going for a realistic model...

Yeah, I see what you're saying. Although I'm not going for hyper-realism, more stylized-realism, after checking what you said against the pics, I can see you're right. The textures I'd like to make more realistic. It's kinda funny, the rib cage looked fine to me till you said something, now it's bothering me.

I don't know about the clavicle though, her arms are raised slightly, and that changes the position and height of your collar bone, but I'll look into it and see what needs to be changed. The hips... Man, I worked on those things for a while, and I thought I had it.

To be totally honest this only about the 4th female model I've done in the past 5 years. so I'm not surprised there's issues with it. I appreciate the constructive crits. On things like this, I like to have some localized critiques, so I can know what I'm doing wrong/right and change it if necessary. Thanks
