unzipping right now, Bas! cant wait to learn what workarounds you found.
your waterfall inspired me to give a cascada a try myself. all on one layer except background sky and glacier. the high one is the result of some failed resizing but i liked it anyways, because its more "steep"
There goes my Saturday .
Thank you so much for sharing!!!

Yeahh!!! Thx pixologic, it's damn cool to have Zbrush caps!
For someone who did not want a competition you did a lot of work Bas
I'm afraid your method will only work if you want to refract green red or blue plastic balls !...i say refract and not reflect on purpose : first I dont think you see "reflections" of the objects in the water...only refracted colors on the surface ...and second : you changed your watersurface from an object wit a material into a "refracted" object and refracted objects refract only RGB so if you use the ball in that scene with a material-let say wood- it will not work unless that material is baked....and thus changed in RGB ....!
So unless i have overseen something..its back to the drawingboard...or you are right and i end up with egg on my face ...i'm willing to take that chance..
[The jury is still out Bas....
Sunny side up!
Thanks to Bas for this, and to all the other seekers. Doesn't matter who's right and who's not .. you are all contributing for the benefit of us all. Thank you.
