I hope you come back on your statement " on your last post "in this thread Bas !....No reason to be so dramatic, unless you have other things to do that are more important !
Its not about you or me being wrong or right! ,but about what Zbrush can do or not ! The only point i want to make is the fact that you cant "see" a material through a refracted surface...that is wat pixolator stated in his thread !
The pictures you showed that it can be done : The picture reflected in the water ...a picture is RGB not material ! ...and the one with my ice-material- hope you like it- shows only reflection of that material !
I followed your instructions and made this two renders..one of the primitives has a material ...i rendered it at two waterlevels...you see the size and angle of the reflection change ..but the "material" cant be seen...its a shade of white !
the fact that you see the grid on the groundplane is the fact that its a RGB-image not a material !
But perhaps some else can enlighten me...i feel like a heretic refusing to see the light ...be it refracted !

O.k Bas ...i take that as a reluctant " you are right...jantim " ....and i won't remind you of your "sneer" : Jantim , are you crazy or am i....you cant expect to be an expert in refraction when less than 3 day ago you dismissed, without a sneer, the fact that refraction other then 1 ( refraction in air) was a possible in Zbrush !....and this is not a sneer its ..just sarcasm, and i think its justified !.

After posting a script how to make waves with a texture.
    *********
Jantim: But it "only" proves that you can make the topology of the watersurface...so far as i understand it you can not have a good reflection AND transparency
If you want refraction you must have your "fluid" and the object that going to be afected by the refraction on ONE layer ...for transparency you need two layers...for reflection you can use TWO layers or ONE....
    *********
Before you drink your champagne, I still think I prooved to make reflections and transparency in one layer.
Yes, I did it with textured materials.
If you knew before I started digging around, some materials become gray where covered with a transparant material, you could have made a great contribution as a gentleman to show this. Instead of this you say: 'I am not a scriptman' and started to sneer. 'Nice fish Bas,..and a nice refraction ....and now for some reflections of a frustrated angler and you have a first class picture'. After this your ego was mentioned by another member. The only thing you did was making an iceberg, and waiting for a 'wow' of the others.
    Yes, you are a sarcast!

I never said Zbrush has a lot of options for refractions...just that it HAD refraction...as you have found out yourself
Never used it myself ..you have to bake the material in order to use it and the higher the poly-count the better the result ...sorry for my late reactions...just went to the computer store for setting a repair date for my "overheating"system!
There are some links if you search for "refraction" i dont know if they can help all users...but a few would be nice also !

    jantim
I see i ruffled your feathers more then was my intention ,Bas !
I would like to say sorry...but that would be an overstatement...i think it amusing that a professional illustrator like you with 19 years of work expierience is loosing his "cool" so easily...because i think i was more friendlier to you than you are now to me..and not only in this message ...but perhaps you are just not used to locking horns with someone else
Perhaps i should leave it here but " sarcastic " as i am i would like to point you to page 2 of this- lenghty and interesting- thread ....see my quote at te start- where i say that you have to BAKE a material before using it in combination with a refaction object...so you see you had that knowledge too
and i did not lay in wait for you to slip up on it ... you did that all by yourself !
And the "ego"thing was brought up long before that by Jeancarlos..long before that -i admit needly comment about the "frustrated angler"- something that i found verry funny at that moment- i did not know that you would take that "hook, line and sinker" ! ...i that i make thing to get a "wow" from others !...thats right Bas !..just as all people posting on forums i like to hear people say that they like what they see...its a "human"thing you know , Bas !
But as you think that is all i do on this forum ..then you are my master in sarcasm..i hope that you will cool down in the coming day's...take a sip of your Polish Wodka ..go fishing and stare in the reflections of the river...and do keep posting if you see one of my renders because i do like your opinion....and that is not sarcastic nor a sneer..we handfull of Dutchie's should on this forum be a guiding light for the rest of this world ...
