    Default island "testrender"

I 'm making some testrenders for a image in Frenchie's : Island of the dead competition... so i'm strugling with reflections, fog, sky and all the stuff that's part of "island-type " renders !..there are some strange black specks in the water surface i'll try to get rid of them..anyone got a clue how these sort of renderartifacts should be erased ?

Abyssis,...if i change the light the specks are still there ...perhaps its the water-material or the noise of the deformation of the surface ?!

Wonderful colours and mood. The low horizon really gives a sense of scale.

You could always clean up the dark spots with a clone tool in your post-work. The shadows and high-light on the nearest skull island don't correspond to the implied light source (sun) in the picture.

    Cool concept.

Thank's Moochie....i'll have to get rid of the sun ,,,i like the light as it is..i don't think that backlight will get a good scene !

Nice Jantim, good mood. I like the sun and clouds in combination with the skull.Yes the white reflection is a bit strange. If you make this another color, maybe red, it looks like something is going on in front of the scene. This can make it all thrilling.

    very cool Jantim,

I agree about the double light source thing....but

I think I would try something first......if you have that sky on a separate level.....try baking it alone at best render and save it (obviously save everything first). Then use the sky pic in the gdi slot of the light that is on the skull and re render with your saved unbaked levels version. I wish I had something handy that I could try myself to give you an idea or pre-test it first but I don't at the moment.

An experiment if you will. I am not sure if it would work or not....but if it works the way I am thinking....it would be very cool and add more atmosphere to the pic. Anyway it's up to you ...I will try to test something out if I can after I get challenges stuff done.

Vivien - I hope you' will like it as much as its in a next incarnation...its a test for reflections & mood...i don't want to use the skull so prominent in a final rendering, but i liked it so i posted it...and it forces me to keep working : i'm by nature a lazy guy

Bas-i have to think what to do in the render and what to do in Zbrush postproduction...with blurbrushes & stuff like that....i've neglected the brushwork-side of this program so i want to try out some things so the reflection color is an option..!

Aminuts- to this moment i never used that"gdi" thing in a render...it will be an all new terrain for me to explore....its a very "test" test-image , alls on one layer so the "final" will have all the layers..i'm thinking on a serie of images on this theme i have a lot of idea's...i hope my skills can keep up with them....its one thing to have an idea in your head..and another to get it on canvas

Frenchie- i like that "isle of the dead" thread..i hope more people will post pictures...you can do a lot with that picture....!

This is a variation of the first render same reflective surface...with lots of brushwork...i like the highlight stripes on the watersurface....color variations on the skull are made by the fog-image that fuses with the skull...i enhanced it with the saturation -brush....all postwork-ilusiondigital- made in Zbrush !

    island12.jpg

in this render i used a diff'rent fog-image that blends with the backgroundsky ....
in the final rendering i want to get closer to the original..so i have to create the bulk of the island..some sparse vegetation...crumbling walls ..etc.

Yes, ilusiondigital...its all Zbrush..a lot of postproduction but with Zbrush tools !
And i used the background & fog-mage in the gdi-slots of the light - that was Aminuts tip- and i did bake the layer for the postproduction brushwork !

Again a variation closer to - what i think- will be the final picture...not so painterly in style...but a start in island building !
