Default 121 Please - (hides under table)

I've probably committed every newbie error in the lexicon of 3D with this picture. Not enough wrinkles, poorly defined area around the eyes, distorted texture on the chin and neck and, oh, my disaster in Projection Master, resulting in the lighter patch of skin on the right temple. At least having visible polygons at the base of the neck was a deliberate design decision. But, apart from the stuff I know should have been better, what else should I be doing to improve my work? Grateful for any and all input.

Just so you know .. I've been using ZBrush for about 5 weeks now. My only 3D background is in Poser and dabbling with a free copy of Carrara 1.1, so I am the genuine tabula rasa, both ready and willing to absorb and learn. You're an inspirational and talented bunch .. thanks in anticipation. Cheers.

Well Moochie, I think you could be teaching most of us!!

I think you yourself covered any crits someone might possibly have.

Great work for 5 weeks!!! I might have to hate you now hahaha. Keep up the good work.

I highly recommend checking out Antropus's tutorial and threads by MonsterMaker and Portart if ya haven't already...plus just read around the forums....you'll pic up those little hints and tips that will give you ideas on how to do things more the way you might want.

Again great job....love the skin by the way!

Moochie, your work is toprow. The controled texturing shows your talent as an illustrator.

? Is there a Gollum model? I'll have to look for that. I got my proportions and references from a book 'Gollum - How We Made Movie Magic' by Andy Serkis. The illustrations are all pretty small, but there are quite a few showing wireframes and sketches. Having read about the WETA - ZB - LotR connection, I thought it would be the perfect project to start. Probably rather over-ambitious of me .. but then I don't know any better! Ignorance may not be bliss, but I've got lots of it!

Thanks for your wonderful encouragement everyone. I am delighted to make your acquaintance.

    Default Too hard on yourself

    Moochie,
Don't be so hard on yourself. You did a great job especially for someone who has only had ZBrush for 5 weeks. Keep up the great work. My only criticism is that his tongue looks kind of like a fish. Just kidding, actually it looks a whole lot like a fish. I'm looking forward to seeing more from you.

NICE! I just don't get where the Hair comes from. Kinda dropped onto his head. Otherwise I have no idea what should be 'wrong' with it. C'mon make a Smeagle with Afro look for us 8-) rofl.
