How to cut a clean straight edge?

Hey, just a quick question. How do I create a clean straight edge onlong the base of this model. When I use the SHIFT+CTRL green drag box and then delete the topology, the mesh is all jagged (pic1) which when the hole is closed causes weird stuff to happen lol (pic 2).Any help on how to just get a clean straight edge?

Pick the Slice Curve Brush from the brush menu, hold Shift+Ctrl and draw a line to slice topology along this line and create two polygroups. Now delete the unwanted polygroup and perform a close holes operation. Another thig you can do is to use the flatten deformer (found by clicking the gear on the gizmo). Dont forget to activate the slice option by clicking the yellow? cone.
