Hello.
My name is Matthew Amey and I'm a long time lurker to this forum, and others, pertaining to digital sculpting, 3D printing and other art-related discussion groups. I am a professional tattoo artist by trade but I've been dabbling in 3D for about 15 years. I've been quietly working to understand how to efficiently and concisely create printable sculpts and I'd like to share some of my work with you. I have gleaned so much knowledge from this forum that I'd like to participate a little.
When ZBrush 4R6 came out I was enamored with the idea of the IMM brush and this is the first piece that I created using a custom IMM tentacle brush that I created. The metal piece was printed through EXone.com, the same company that Shapeways.com uses to produce there 'stainless steel' line of materials.
Here is an octopus pendant that I sculpted in the spring of 2014.
Original render in ZBrush.
The following images are photographs of the pendant after direct-to-metal printing available through EXone.com or Shapeways.com
I did some hand polishing to the pieces after they arrived to bring out the details, especially on the tentacles.
I would love to see this in Sterling Silver but I've got to sell a few of these first.
Thanks for wasting some time looking at my stuff.
If there are any questions I'm happy to answer them, just please be patient with my response time.
