Great sculpt, his eye is hypnotic !

Hi everyone,
I would like to share with you my recent, self-initiated college project.
It is based on my own design of a mountain dwelling, tribal relic guardian.
I produced a high poly zbrush sculpture, real-time game model, a keyshot render which was highly edited in photoshop and a 20cm high, 3d printed model.
C&C are welcome, thank you and I hope you enjoy it.

Hi everyone,
Here is the start of my new project for the final year graduation in college.
The goal is to produce a physical movie prop through a combination of digital and physical work.

I will design and model an alien head with a mechanical helmet.

The character is a banished general who workes as a bounty hunter.

I began with the basic shape exploration shown on the image.
It would be really great if I could get some feedback and critique of my designs.

I will post regular updates on my progress, deadline is the 18th of May!

I have settled on design number 8.

As this model is going to end up to be a physical 3d printed model, I began by figuring out the bare basics.

  • How does the head fit inside?
  • How does the helmet open up?
  • What is the most efficient way of spliting the helmet into pieces for 3d printing?
  • How does a real mechanism fit inside and operate the movement of the opening mask?

Once I had these questions answered I was ready to prepare my model in Zbrush, which currently is my number 1 tool for any kind of design work.

In the last few days I kept quite busy.
I finalized the design of the helmet and began the 3d printing.

As I wanted the helmet to open up I had to design a mechanism that will be raising the faceplate.
Also as I print the helmet in pieces that will then come together I inserted rectangular keys, which will keep the pieces in position.

Once I started 3d printing, I have now the time to focus on the design of my mean deserted war criminal/space pirate.
I began with the setup of basic body proportions and started to experiment with the face.
