Default Man of Steel - Superman

Here's my latest project...Superman from the Man of Steel movie. I've seen the benchmarks set by people such as Bigguns so that's the standard I'm aiming for...let's see how close I can get.

Nice start - I can see his likeness coming through very well even at this stage.

Thanks Greg, it's early days but it's getting there. Once the asymmetry is in it'll hopefully look more accurate.

A few more subtle details have been worked on, not something you can really tell in this render. Here's a quick decimate and cloth sim. Looking at it the wrist is too long but I'll sort this when I do the hand scan.

Now that Iron Man is finished it's straight back on to this but I'm going to do the Batman v Superman version of the suit instead.

    Default question

    Hi there, great work!
Would you be able to explain how you create the stripes on the suit sides?

And is the cape created in Zbrush?

It is something I have been struggling with, any advice would be appreciated.

I exported the high res geo from zbrush and used the freeform tools in Max to trace the S and other lines onto the surface, then added a shell and reimported into zbrush. You can probably do that a lot quicker in zbrush using masks and extracting for example but I'm not as confident getting a good crisp result using those kind of zbrush techniques yet.

The cape was a quick maya cloth sim.

I've been procrastinating with the face detail and did some look dev instead with a couple of new HDRIs. Everything is still very much wip, did a real quick zbrush unwrap and scribbled on a quick mask for the muscle suit underneath.

Hey man, thanks. No, they were done in Max using the freeform tools.
