Default Maffu's Critique and Advice Thread

Hi - thought I'd start a thread to get critique, tips and advice on my stuff, since it looks like I'm here to stay.
There are some really talented artists here so I'd value your input.
So honest critique, constructive criticism and any pointers are very very welcome.

So here's the first one. it's my second foray into Sculptris.
It is, I hope you can see, Rembrandt, sculpted from one of his later self portraits, "Self-Portrait With Two Circles"
    So, have away at it...

Hey Maffu, Great portrait so far. I think the facial hair needs a lot more work but sometimes suggestion of form is better than striving for truly realistic in both real sculpting and computer

That's a great start! I knew who it was straight away. It's a great painting, too.

    Thanks for the feedback guys.
@Tartan - yes, I haven't figured out the whole hair thing yet. The eyebrows in particular are comical.

@dreamz - That foreground reference utility looks really handy - I'll give it a go. Thanks

Still experimenting. Getting a little more into rendering in Blender.
Looking through some of the artwork submitted (particularly Captain Nemo's old thread) I realised that sculptures really do look better if you ground them with a simple base plane or plinth, rather than having them floating about in space.
Anyway, here's anther one for my alphabet.

I like it, very smooth work, but I have the feeling your models are lacking eye lids:

Just go there, I won't bother uploading this image, because it's a pain.

Thanks Zobrik. You're absolutely right. I have an excuse for the last one because the guy had no discernible eyelids to speak of in my reference image, but the others I had real trouble with. while working on this last one I've discovered the options for the Draw brush so my future sculpts should be able to get through life without special goggles.

    Cheers

Aaand another one. Did my best to give him eyelids too
