Post CHECK THIS OUT!!! FREE AWESOME SOFTWARE!

You HAVE to check this out. If you are at all into animating or modeling for computer or Xbox games, you will love this program. It's called gmax and you can download it from here Discreet's gmax free download. It's made by the same company that makes 3D Studio Max, and uses the same format. I don't know if it can do everything 3DS Max can do, but it is so awesome. So far, following the tutorials, i've made a simple level, a character head, and i'm making a really awesome machine at the moment. THIS THING RULES!! I haven't figured out all the file types it imports, but i know it will bring in dxf and 3ds files

I'll have to give this a look-see during the weekend.
The direction of companion mind should cooperate with rescue at lighting of a red lamp,or a buzzer. Please give me connection from a nearly extraordinary telephone.

Yeah, but you can't export your models! (except in GMax format). I spent a day learning GMax only to find I couldn't do anything with my models outside GMax. Grrrrrrh!

    Gmax format only is true.

Which brings a good point up.

When using freeware, go to the file dropdown and see all it's functionality before putting in work that may not get to live long. It is also a good idea to read through the intro pages of the help files.

GMax is for gamers and game modelers to use with GMax specific game files. don't like the color of your monsters, take it into GMax.
Want a new monster from an old one? Take it into GMax.

The thing here is, if you can't afford 3DStudio Max, but you want to become very familiar with the software (without feeling driven to get it done within 30 days), here it is.

This program must be good, based on what is said , but anything that gives you so much trouble to get is not for me, sorry. Just when you think you have filled out all the forms up comes another one. This one I will have to do without free or not.

If you can't affort 3d Studio Max... Head to Rhino.
    Rhino

    $200 for the educational version
    $800 for the regular one

Though Gmax is similar to max (stripped tremendously), and a nice alternative to start learning MAX's ins & outs.
