    Breakdown

    1. 3D sketch in ZBrush
I made a rough character using ZBrush. I defined shape and position of detail on my character. You can imagine your final work through this process.

    2. Base modeling in Maya.
I use Maya to create for very clean and sharp geometry on my 3d sketch from ZBrush then I do UV mapping.

    3. Sculpting and adding detail in ZBrush
I sculpted detail using Surface Noise in ZBrush.
If you need patterns, There are a lot of free patterns.

    4. Rendering
I used BPR render with various materials. The final image was composited in Photoshop.

Top row imo. Did you manually make all the scratches and patterns on the character?

I sculpted scratches separately like large, medium and small.
I usually sculpt large scratches manually then I use Surface Noise for medium and small.
I import different textures for different type and size of scratches in Surface Noise. When I finish medium scratches, I do Apply To Mesh and move to small part.

My work has been selected by 3d artist magazine team for issue 63 which is out on 8 January 2014.
