    Default Realistic old man Portrait

    Hi everyone,

Here is a portrait that I have done in my spare time Using some of the assets that we have created in Douglas Fisher studio.

I used Maya, Zbrush, Mudbox, Photoshop, Vray And nuke Along with a few in house assets and a few Plugins.

I still haven't done any retouching on this piece so far. Did some colour correction in nuke but still haven't retouched it the way I would retouch a single image. In other words I made sure I can render a turntable with the same quality.
I am however planning to do some still image retouching on this piece if I get some time to do so.

I hope you like it and comments are welcome.
    Cheers!

    Wow! Great sculpt here!
My only critic is the skin shader looks a bit waxy, but the overall is great!

    Good job!

good piece man, haven't seen a render this realistic in quite a while
one critique though, try giving the pores a little bit more attention
if you look at the reference he has visible pores on his forehead/glabella area as well as a few on his nose that arent quiet that visible on your piece

Rick the Gaijan, Thanks a lot mate, I do not completely agree on the waxy look Tho, It depends on the type of look that you want to go for really.

Master Siamak, Gahpe, Sovietsteel, Widi5006, Ali Shakeri , Philuxius, Thanks a lot.

Pabgo, Thanks a lot for your compliment, As for the pore detail, I wasn't aiming to replicate the reference like 100% sort of senario This is like an interpretation of the 3d.sk guy. like he has black eyes and mine has got blue ones...

I'll try post some other stuff here soon.

Here is the hair Material ID pass to give you a better idea of how the hair system works.
its just one hair system for the whole thing ( hair, fluff, eyebrows, stubble, eyelashes...)
You can Also have a look at the wire frame.
I hope you like it and comments are welcome.

Could you please expose your rendering and comping pipeline?

Thanks a lot for your compliment. I will do a break down of the pipeline once I go home this evening.

Skin shading is a very tricky thing to do unfortunately. It's partially because you always have the challenge of "is it looking real?" in front of you.
It could be a good thing to keep in mind but at the same time it confines your abilities and your artistic interpretations.

I can post loads of actual photos in this website and if I don't mention that they are actual Photographs I guarantee that people are gonna find something to criticize and say it looks 3d!
I honestly showed a reference photo to one of my mates the other day and he thought it was a 3d artwork. So he started to bombard it with stuff like the specularity is not working or the
skin looks too dark in certain places.

Now that I've got it to this level I'm thinking of doing some real retouching without considering that its a 3d piece.

Thanks again for the compliments everyone.

Amazing work Sohrab!!! Great sculpt very natural looking! This is going to be one kick ass turntable once you render it out! I agree about the skin shader but still it just looks awesome! Thumbs up
