Shellac's ZBrush Miscellanea

Hi,

My name is Neil and I’ve been a long time lurker at ZBrush Central.

I’ve finally plucked up a bit of courage and start a thread.

I’ve decided to start with some recent 2d/3d experiments within Quicksketch.

Thank you in advance for any interest and feel free to ask any questions.

Cheers !,

Neil

Very nice. I really like that last one.

Really interesting stuff that differs from what you usually see here. Keep posting your work, your sketchbook may be a very interesting to visit :+1:

senatorgreaves - Yeah, I think you’re right. I got a bit carried away with various alphas and brushes. I love the strange novelty that the brushes produce ( did you spot my sneaky use of the demo soldier?);).

Like a lot of people on this amazing forum, I am gradually learning to sculpt and at times it can be very frustrating when I hit a wall.

The Quicksketch plugin really allows me to cut loose from my sculpting learning curve and produce artwork very, very quickly.

This thread will eventually contain some of my attempts at sculpting,
but I like the fact that I’m able to recycle some of my old stuff into something interesting.

I’m gonna refine some of my techniques as I continue forward (like using colour)

Thank you once again.

Hey Nebular,

It’s nice to hear from you.

Did you sort out your Wacom dilemma ?

It’s amazing what you can achieve with this crazy software:D

I’ll keep pushing Quicksketch and post the results.

I might eventually put up a couple sculpts as well.

Once again, thank you for your interest.

… and I’ve been neglecting my thread.

I’m still trying new workflows and techniques.

Another black and white sketch.

I’ll eventually move into colour.

hi Shellac,
i really like the direction you are exploring, waiting to see more

You have great vision and your approach is unique! I have a feeling I will be seeing more soon!

Thank you for the compliments.

I’m very grateful for your interest in my work.

There are so many great people and artists on this forum.

Kind regards,

Neil

Your last sketch - what a great concept! YOu shopuld dig it more and turn into a 3d skulpt because the idea behind it is really interesting.

Yup, I did  I went with Intous 5 M-size and I’m preeeety happy with it.

Good to hear from you again Nebular.

I love my Wacom tablet.
It’s not perfect by any means, hopefully they’ll improve future models.

Yes, you’re right about trying to recreate the sketch to a sculpt.
I’ll give it a try at some point in the near future.

I need to transition into colour imagery as well…

Cheers,

Neil

I’ve been away from this thread for far too long.

I’ve spent the week shaking off creative inertia.

The following images continue my QuickSketch mash up experiments (now in colour).

I’m trying to incorporate some unfinished sculpts into my artwork.

We’ll see how it goes.

The last two are work in progress.

Cheers,

Neil

Shellac your too modest great work

Thank you for your encouragement Marcelino.

Hello,

I’ve decided to kickstart my old QuickSketch thread by putting up a couple of recent experiments.

Everything was done in ZBrush, except a levels tweak in Photoshop.

The process mainly involved the use of alpha masking, alpha brushes, custom insert mesh shapes) and colour layers projected onto the QuickSketch plane.
The female head was an old sketch bust with very bad polypaint:o

Quite the thread update. I’ve forgotten about this feature. You’ve really opened my eyes to QuickSketch.
Great thread, inspiring and helpful.

Thanks,

:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:

Thank you for your kind words Acmepixel.
I will endeavour to keep this thread more active.
It was both frustrating and rewarding not to rely on Photoshop.

Cheers, Neil

This is very cool
Always interested in how people use Zbrush for more illustration type stuff
Keep em coming

Thank you for your kind comments BlackMath.

Yeah, I totally agree with your sentiments.

I’d love to see a bit more illustration on this forum.
I’m working towards more of a hybrid approach in my images.

Don’t get me wrong, I love the sculpture work on this forum but I like to mix it up a bit.

Saying that, I’ll probably put some of my sculpture sketches up at some point:o:lol:

Kind Regards,
Neil
