Maybe you could re-design Wings3D UI? It's still one of my Favs, but that hammered UI could really use a FaceLift !!

Just because some software is not being updated does not mean it's dead. There's still plenty of ppl using Win XP, I still open files in Notepad, God only know how long it's been since that was updated. There's still ppl playing Assault Cube online, there's still a small group trying to improve Wings3D, although all they can do is write macro-type plugins because most of the program is hard-coded in. Even if it was further developed, Sculptris would probably never be "Great" software. While it's easy to use for a beginner, the meshes it creates are terrible to work with in other software, and since Retopo is a time-consuming skill it seems that few have .... But Sculptris is very "Good" software as is. The Paint Mode is the best you can get for free! Projection painting, Bumpmap painting, able to import and use masks, textures and alphas, precise brush control and texture rotation, Lazymouse, Airbrush, Combine color and bump. I can get almost Zbrush detail on a low-poly with this. No you can't go back to Sculpt Mode from Paint, but Can continue building in another app!!
Sculptris is NOT DEAD! It's just not being improved .....
Not going to lie, that isn't what I wanted to hear out of them. I'm sure they have their reasons though.
I'm still willing to hope that their reason has more to do with the fact that they are either too far along with the current build to change any additional UI components, combined with numerous other enhancements in the program itself, or that they are more than happy with the current UI and they would rather spend more time focusing on getting the new Sculptris done and out the door.
Since it is a free program (kind of the gateway drug to pull you into ZBrush), I'm sure they aren't exactly throwing multiple resources at it in order to get the same kind of update schedule as ZBrush itself. If it's just Doc working on it, it could still take a bit more time depending on what's going into it. If only they would be a bit more open about what's going on.
Come on Pixo. Just a screenshot or two...![]()
I guess, that Blender + ZBrush is a very good combo--until! Scrulptris V1 comes out, then... it's going to be Sculptris>ZBrush>Blender, instead of Blender>ZBrush>Blender

Why do you do such great work on such ugly models, Please don't take offense. But I wanna see you're version of the She Hulk, or your mythological approach to Spiderman. You pay so much attn to getting the turquoise out of your Bronze, and your Sculpts have much character, but their just so unattractive. I've been meaning to play with Blender Cycles a little more myself, now I know it will use mirror balls (Sculptris Materials) I wanna revisit some Robo-mech type stuff .
Very Good work, so realistic I can almost smell they're stinky cabbage farts and medicated ointment.
@justadeletedguy
Thanks for your comments but I deleted the render a few mins after posting. Oh, you where fast.
We can have more talk on blender dynamic topology project and even on my ugly sculpts here.
Sculptris is already an aged application to me.
If pixologic prefers to keep it as simple as possible, as an entry level to the best ever ZB4r4, they could develop an 64 bit app capable for some millions of poly. Even this can give some future to sculptris. Making it a very interesting assistant app to zbrush. Else, as SJM humorously mentioned, a blender>zb>blender or simply blender is what probably gonna happen.

Blender's coming along fantastic. I just don't quite understand the box-modeling tools, no shortcut for Edgeloop, Edgering, and other stupid stuff. Plus I'm on a Laptop with no Num Pad, I've got "Emulate" set but still missing some shortcuts. And I think there's just a different approach to workflow from Wings3d to Blender box modeling.. , but yea I tried Radial Symmetry with the Dynotopo, it was way cool, I use the Cloth Sim here and there, of course Snap and Shrinkwrap. I haven't really figured out the Paint Tools either, Plus my card is AMD/ATI not Nvidia so Cycles is kinda slow still.
Difficult to find something in blender that hasn't a shortcut. (edge loops = ctrl+R, mouse wheel adds more, watch how many under the left T panel).
Not to add, to select. Yes it's in the Select Menu. Much of what I do in Wings3d is based on similarities I've found between old-school Zbrush and Wings3d, particularly Group-Loops. A face-inset followed by adding edge-loops to the new faces created plus the Wings3D Tweak function forms a structure similar to Zbrush Group-Loops. What's nice about this is the new edgerings and edgeloops formed stay selectable, even after Import/Export and maybe sculpted in Sculptris, because of where the poles are, and the mesh stays all Quad. Also, in the Manifoldlab version plugins, Select Menu, there's a "Charted Region" option that will expand the selection to marked "Hard" edges. So I have Select edgering/edgeloop on shortcut, edge-hard/soft and "Charted Region" on shortcut, Create/Freeze virtual Mirror on shortcut, and View Selected and toggle "Show edges" on shortcut. Plus I figured out a little more about the Sculpt-Mode in Wings3d, plus some of the trickier functions like "bend" with a Dome Magnet, and "loop paths to tubes".
I know Blender's got Curves and Arrays and Grease-Pencil, and a few other cool things I haven't even tried yet. But I think a successful approach to Blender box-modeling would just have a different workflow than Wings3d, A different "how to" from getting from A to B the easy way.

ctrl+tab to select mode, edges, alt+click. Please don't ask more here LOL, just PM or better register to blenderartists.org.
Box modeling is just fine in blender. In fact I use it all the time. I did try wings 3d, it's impressive but I'm just a blender user.

Why dont modify the old versions before it was selled to pixologic?...really there wasn't a lot of implementations till that versions 95% of today sculptris was there. make it free and allow people to do new mods.
I looked, you can't find it anymore. There were 2 earlier versions, I think. But I don't think he implemented Paint Mode until Sculptris 1.02 .. which was renamed Alpha 5 when Pixologic bought it. But it's really not necessary, as Michalis was pointing out, There's a Dynotopo build of Blender at Graphicall.org, that has the same geometry building function as Sculptris. To get addons, just copy the whole addons directory from your main Blender install, to the unzipped directory of the Dynotopo build. I did it, got my Import/Exports at least (Not sure if everything else works). It's experimental and buggy, but you can then render in Cycles and use your Sculptris Materials as Mirror Balls for your Mat. Since Blender has had most of what you needed to Retopo your Sculptris models, UV, Texture and even Animate, your better off just learning Blender, cuz it's now got pretty much everything all these other companies are trying to SELL YOU! Camera Tracking, Realistic Renders, Game Engine with Physics, Liquid Sim, Cloth Sim, Particles (hair), Multires in Sculpt mode, Vertex Painting, Texture Painting, Texture and Normal Baking, and I believe Network Rendering. Plus there's so many Cool Free user projects like the Suicide City Generator. Kinda makes upgrading Sculptris pointless.
Two years ago Sculptris was the COOLEST little app anywhere. A modeler that built it's own geometry. No need to learn anything about polygons or UV's. And I got to watch this little community grow. Then last year we got an update. Integration with Zbrush including controls, GoZ, and some internal funtions were improved. I must admit, this little app helped improve my skills and knowledge 100%. But now all the users want is MORE .........
.... If you have $700 then MORE starts with a Z ..... if you don't then MORE starts with a B ........
