Default Maniacal Jester - Sketchbook 2012

    Hello, everybody!

I've been using Zbrush for almost a year now, but I haven't done much with it due to school and work. I recently graduated and have found myself with a little more time to devote to this hobby of mine. I've mainly used Zbrush to conept toon characters, but I really want to work on my anatomy so that I can begin sculpting realistic characters. At the moment, I'm focusing on the human head. Please feel free to post your critiques.

The male head was scultped first in about an hour and a half. I then sculpted the female head which took about two and a half hours. The last one that I sculpted over the weekend was the little girl's head and it only took an hour to do. The toon head was just something I did to clear my head while I was reshaping the female head. Eyes have always been my weak point, but I think I'm getting better. The little girl's head took about 30 minutes and then I spent another 30 minutes working on the eyes, but in the process I think I may have finally found the most efficient technique to get good looking realistic eyes. I do plan to redo the eyes on the female head sometime in the near future.

    Enjoy!

I wanted to apply what I've learned so far to something a little more fun. The head took about 25 minutes to sculpt so far. I'll start working on the eye area and detail it further tomorrow.

Nice work, can definitely see progression there already. Not really knowledgeable enough to crit but they look good and the latest one 'feels' realistic to me. Having said that I like the fat toon guy too, I'm a fan of cartoon stuff.

    Cheers,
    Brian

Thanks, Brian. I think this latest head is looking better mainly because I'm being a little loose with it. I think I'm definately getting better at sculpting the eye area. This was pretty much just 20 minutes of messing around until I sculpted something that I liked. Now I think I can focus a little more on the rest of the face and, eventually, a body.

Performed a few tweaks to the male head from above. I added a neck, but I still have a lot of work to do on it. I also started work on a new female head. I think I've put about an hour or a little more into it by now.

Edit: I'm not going to be able to sculpt for a few days, so I decided to tweak the new female head a little more because I just wasn't entirely happy with it as I left it. Definitely looking more feminine now.

Very nice. The male one is really coming along. With the female one, maybe her jaw/chin feels a little strong for a feminine face?

    Cheers,
    Brian
