    Default New to sculptris

    I have been an artist for many years now very new to computer sculpting like Sculptris. Tried Cheetah but didn't get very far till I gave up. I like the idea of Sculptris but having a hard time at times sculpting because my model keeps moving around. I try the drawing tablet and stylus or mouse and go right back to Mac's tracking device, but still can't seem to get the details I want without the "clay" moving on the axis. Be gentle with an answer still learning terms and yes I am over sixty but not dead.
    I sort of like my iPad 123 Sculpt better wish there was a combination of the both for MAC Book Pro and iPad users.

    Definitely need to get used to using a tablet, and by tablet I mean the drawing ones like Wacom make. Mouse and other input isn't that great and as someone once put it "is like finding a needle in a haystack with boxing gloves on."

    Just remember that anytime you use the mouse or tablet pen outside of the model it will rotate or move the model. Anytime you use the mouse or pen inside the model it will use the current sculpting tool.

    I know getting used to a new medium can be frustrating but keep at it and you'll get the hang of it.

    Kind of hard to say exactly what's going on there, but I can say what's worked for me so far. The first thing I'd say to do would be to go into options and turn on "Traditional Sculptris navigation". It would mean getting used to a slightly different control method, but being new to Sculptris you shouldn't have too many habits to relearn and it would also stop the movement of the model while you were sculpting on it unless you were holding down the "alt" button or the middle mouse button to move and rotate. I'm probably one of the few who still use the original navigation and wish ZBrush would adopt that control method rather than adding their controls to Sculptris.

    The tablet/mouse debate has gone on for quite a while, but in my opinion, it's still just a tool. Neither is better than the other. The main thing that matters is what you feel most comfortable with. I personally use a mouse, but it's what I'm most comfortable using. I can use a pencil, pen, or paintbrush, but I just can't seem to get used to one of those tablet pens...

    Just like anything, it's all about practice. Like MentalFrog was saying, Sculptris is just a tool in itself to get used to. But, once you get used to it, it's probably the easiest of all the programs to quickly get an idea out there without having to worry about all the rest of the usual 3D roadblocks.

    Default I hear what you are saying but

    The model still moves when I pick up the stylus to pick a different sculpting tool.

    Default Thanks that helped

    I am glad I am not alone with the Wacom tablet. I can use it for drawing on Sketchbook but sculpting is different for me.

    @jcpete

    Erm! You sure you haven't selected the rotate button in error, bottom left; rather than the 'edit button' ?
