Simple Professional Character Art Question: Please Read
I am trying to get into character/creature art in the game industry and have a very simple professional question. I understand that in the field there is a good deal of kit bashing and use of old assets as a base for new work to save time and money.
My question is simple, when making portfolio pieces is it ok for me to start off with base meshes like Zbrush's Nick's Base Male subtool or does it tend to be frowned upon. Do artists hiring like to see your character's created from scratch?
I can understand that they want to know you have a good sense of form and anatomy but it would speed up my portfolio process. I was wondering what industry professionals had to say on the matter.
