    Red face Natalie's Sketchbook...(Lunchtime Creations)

    Hi guys,

I have been a spectator on this site for a few years now but finally decided to take the plunge and post some bits up. To date I have been using ZBrush for around a year now (self taught) - before that I was just using Maya.

I am currently working in the games industry as a 3D artist which I have been doing now for almost a year, although I have worked in games for eight years in total doing other things.

However, even though I use ZBrush a lot I still have much to learn when it comes to sculpting (when it comes to characters especially). I thought it would be really useful to post a few pieces up to get some critiques and help from you guys, so I can try and progress even further with my personal work etc.

Thanks for taking the time to look!

    Natalie

    Hi Natalie, Welcome.

What a wonderful first post! Three very different types of subject matter and all very well done! Looking forward to future posts! Cheers, David

    Hello again people,

Thanks for the great feedback! It's really appreciated. As Mass Effect 3 is out soon (eek!), here is a member of the Drell race. I loved the character Thane Krios and so wanted to do my own custom version. I have made some slight changes and beefed him up slightly and made the armoured plates on his head more prominent. Hope you like him.

    Hi everyone,

Here is a piece that I am currently working on, this is still a WIP. So far I have defined the torso muscles more that the legs/feet. I am planning on starting the lower half this lunchtime.
He will eventually be a Roman Soldier.

Here is a sculpt I did a couple of months ago now, I may go back to this and change him about a bit if I get the time.

there is a lot to like about this design but i feel like the torso is a little short, which contributing to a sense of stockiness inconstant with the aquatic theme. I like the head fins and ear gills.

Thanks for the feedback, magbhitu. I know where you are coming from on this because I actually think the same thing now I have looked upon him with fresh eyes after a couple of months away from this sculpt. I may alter this eventually or just start another 'fishman' character from scratch.

As for my most recent work, I have been spending the past few weeks making a start on sculpting pieces of Roman armour. I still need to work on quite a lot of the details, and I also haven't finished adding all of the elements I want to this yet. I've just begun a cape for him as a very basic mesh in Maya too. I may also add a little interest to the floor area on the plinth.

Hi guys, hope you are all well.

    @KC-Production: Thanks very much!
@mdg3d: I'm glad you like it, thanks.

Here is an update on the Roman Soldier as promised, all polypainted now with final detailing completed i.e. on his shield etc. Because I sculpted all his clothing as seperate subtools you can have him with or without his chest plate etc to change things up a bit. I hope you like it so far. I'm not happy with his hand holding the spear though, everytime I bend his fingers it looks awful! Something I really need to work on.

I've decided to take my invented character (as seen in my first post), 'Turtle Man' and do him as a full body sculpt. When I created him I decided he was a leader of some sort, like a general in an army that had seen many fights on a battle field, so I gave him an older features and attempted to give him quite a stern and serious look about him. Hopefully this comes across in some way. I'm going to start by sculpting his body and then hopefully progress onto outfitting him in some clobber.

Update on Turtle Man sculpt, another hour spent defining the muscle structure.
