I know I certainly thought the same thing as soon as I saw ZBrush was getting another update. I'd be happy with them lying to me right now to at least say, "Yeah, we're still working on it." At least it would be some kind of communication regarding the future of Sculptris.

I'm not trying to be negative about it. I still love playing with the program and it's still free, but the more time I spend with it, the more I realize what it could be if they gave it just a bit of attention. I'd think they would at least use it as a testing ground for the programmers wilder ideas.

I'm wondering about updates too. The new zb dynamesh is cool, but I expected something more like the scultris solution, so I'm still using it for sketching and hope for some updates.

It doesn't really matter. I've found so many uses for Sculptris as is. There's enough info in this forum to take almost any 3d first timer, bring them to amateur, then pro ..... with-out Zbrush. And now Blender 2.62 !!!!! has all the Goodies. If only this year could be, to the "starving artist", AS GOOD AS LAST YEAR WAS !!

upgrade would be nice, still, I rather use sculptris then zbrush on modelling, but it has it limitations though
I wonder if you can use dynamesh as easy as sculptris?

The answer is No ... it's meant for mostly the same purpose, but from what I've seen it looks like more harm than help for anyone who doesn't have a college degree in Zbrush .....
for an example, take any Sculptris mesh into Blender 2.62 and add the Remesh modifier ...... it works, but you'll go from 50k tris to 200k quads to get any detail. Then once again you're stuck decimating or retopo-ing to bring polycount down .... Sculptris's dynamic tesselation and reduce brush kick 4$$ all over that!! ... If you're just wanting to retopo, there's plenty of info in this forum.
The Noisemaker looks fun, I watched some of the vids, but if you watch a few, you notice that all they've really done lately is added an internal image editor for processing texture files. The fibermesh tools look fun too, but notice those are just strings of polygons.
If you have Sculptris, Gimp or Paint.net, Wings3d and/or Blender, you can imitate almost anything done in Zbrush. It takes a few more steps, some jumping back and forth between programs, and a little imagination in coming up with a workflow.

well I have zbrush already, but I havent figured out a fast workflow with the dynamesh yet
I really love sculptris but, well, I probably will fix it
Its just so fast with sculptris
but I import the models to zbrush and continue there
I think zbrush is outstanding, followed it since it came out...

It's way faster! I work with a high resolution dynamesh, 128 resolution and the zbrush sphere is the size of a head to put scale into perspective, I use dynamesh to Frankenstein pieces together, fingers, toes, arms, legs. You can put a model together pretty fast that way. The only thing missing is a fast way to resurface the mesh, so then we can use the multi resolution sculpting tools to get those really fine details.

Just work from a high resolution and you'll see how it can easily replace sculptris in your workflow. Looking forward to some updates myself! Sculptris is no longer relevant with dynamesh. Here's to the future!

It can be faster than sculptris. Start with boolean operations, add some spheres cubes, dynamesh, move tool, dynamesh again, hide a part, delete hidden, dynamesh etc etc
The dam standard brush, using less z value and a less sharp mask can be the equivalent of crease tool. The Z pinch drag or alt drag is much superior.
I love sculptris for what it does but I think I finished with it.

well that was answers I was hoping for nice

guess I have to find some basic tutorials
when I am playing in zbrush
the sphere is hard to controll both in zoom and its spinnig around uncontrollable
the awful mousepointer , I now it can be replaced, have to do that too
I dont like the gui, the text and icon is small and jumpy
but i guess i can fix that too, I know its flexible

I suppose its just to easy to start with sculptris
and I have to work harder to get zbrush how I want it

The GUI is very flexible, I work with a white UI which is also customized so that I have easy access to the tools I use most.

The community is also larger, there are more tutorials created and the instruction material is of a higher quality, for now ZBrush is a no brainer. Just lose yourself in it!

Rotate on all axis is the default, rotate on Y axis is possibly what you're asking.
hey, learn the basics first. ZB UI isn't that bad. Don't compare it with Sculptris, it's not fair. There're hundred of functions in zb. SC just sculpts a sphere. However, when trying to smooth auto UVs, figuring a way to decimate, export the original hi poly, shrinkwrapping in blender or elsewhere... things turn to be very complicated and lot of sc users know nothing on this.
No, Zb UI, is superior to sc.

well I dont compare them, its not a contest
I was just so blown away with sculptris
its the first software where I could sculpt directly without thinking
    wery intuitiv
Just wished zbrush could be as easy, I have to get in to zbrush anyway

    thanks for the tips anyway
and sorry for taking the thread away...
    an upgrade would be lovely

An update could be lovely, indeed!
I was on the last beta testing team, actually. A little disappointed on what I was testing, I admit this.

Problem in zBrush is that it went way to complicate to get in quickly (no not only functionality. Everything is just different ).
There should be an alternative Interface close to sculptris for first steps.
Tools in sculptris are working much smoother and natural for me.
Everything needs to be touched in zBrush to get something similar, starting with tablet preferences.

I am hoping for Zsculptris with sculptris smoothness and careless environment and zbrush functionality behind.
A bit more like just GoZ.
zBrush still can learn a lot from sculptris starting with binding clients with easy functionality.
Zsculptris should be a part of Zbrush package.
A solid sculpting tool which I would like to pay extra to be further developed.

I am not expecting a free update. I am expecting more.
