    Default My first ZB WIP...

Hey everyone, this is my first real attempt at a character using ZBrush. I have been a member here at ZBC for about a year but still consider myself a novice sculptor.

If you could take the time to view my work I would like to hear some constructive criticism on the proportions of this humanoid.

I have most of the anatomy established but thought I would get the opinion of the some of the artists here to make sure the base is sound before adding more detail. Your thoughts on the actual design of the character are welcome also, I'm not yet certain where I will take him creatively.

I also plan on polypainting layers for SSS in Max later on, so for now I'm just using a matcap that I like.

BTW: I have not developed the knee/upper leg area much because I plan to give the character shorts.

Also here's the eyeball model that I plan to use as soon as I finish adjusting the eyelids...

    Thanks for viewing!

For some reason the images were scaled up so I apologize for the bad quality.

First of all, welcome to ZBrushCentral and glad you are posting!
You are definently on the right track, I would consider doing more head sculpts and anatomy study!
and looking a lot of references in 2d aswell in 3d!
I am also a beginner so don't want to critize you, just there are still some anatomy problems! Still are missing the bone structure of the head!
dont forget you can lower division levels move polys around and get as much detail then back up too higher till your happy take your time you'll learn more that way !
Looking forward to your progress, I will keep an eye on it!
    Best regards and happy sculpting

Hey Kenny, thanks for your words of encouragement. I needed another pair of eyes to critique my work and thats what you have given me.

Can you be a bit more specific on the problem with the structure of the head, keeping in mind that it IS supposed to be an alien, fantastic creature (those ridges on the back of his head are meant to be there)?

Will definately keep on with studies of the anatomy.

If anything else bugs you about the work, like something's missing, please let me know!

    Cheers.

A quick experiment with fibermesh. How cool is this feature!

Wow! Great work on the eyeball! How did you get it like this. Did you paint it on or use Spotlight? Are you going to be using the character built in an animation? Looks like it may be as it is in a prepped T-pose stance. Good work!

    Thanks Monty,

Yep, I finally have the topology ready for animation so when i'm happy with the sculpt I will animate and render in Max. It's going to be part of a music film clip for a friend. Will post some more work when I approach the level of some of the amazing artists here at ZBC. I hope I set you in the right direction regarding the eyeball texture in your thread just recently.

    I really appreciate your encouragement.

    Cheers.
