Ambient Occlusion map will not work at all?

Hey, i’m getting very frustrated now. I’m simply trying to create an ambient occlusion map for a model.
I’m using the Multi-Map exporter, and telling it to only export Ambient Occlusion. However it doesn’t seem to matter what settings i use, i always get this type of result:

Cavity Maps also do the same thing for me…

Can someone please tell me what is wrong here i have no idea what is going wrong and can’t seem to find any other threads anywhere with the same problem.

Mmm Polycount forum says that this feature is broken and has never worked, and that the only way around it is to do masking by AO? Is this true?
