Hey,

I started this a while a go and picked it up again yesterday with a hope to finishing it soon.
It's going to be a game model eventually (this is important for my upcoming question)

now... the problem i have it that it's got to a stage where the polycount is just too much for my weak little home computer. ( this was originally started on my work rig) but somehow I have managed to delete all of the lower sub-divisions. I can't recreate the lower sub-divisions as zbrush tells me the mesh has triangles ( how they got there is beyond me but still...) I've tried the re-mesh button to create a new entity and then 'project all' but due to the nature of some of the bevels etc, it just doesn't work to an acceptable standard. I've tried hiding some of the sub-tools (there are currently 40+) but my computer is still too slow.
So what I eventually ended up doing was decimating the mesh just so that I could rotate it without my computer dying. Now, this worked fine but the problem I am now faced with is that I can't polypaint it (which was always my intention). So now I guess I'll just have to do the normal map etc bakes and then paint the diffuse in photoshop.

I'd really appreciate some advice on this as to what steps someone more experienced than me would take when faced with these problems. Is it even worth painting something like this inside of zbrush? are there any ways to get the lower sub-divisions back?

any help would be greatly appreciated.

also any crits or comments on the work so far would be appreciated also.

cheers
