    Default Shulin's Sketchbook 2012

    I'd like to start my 2012 sketchbook with some fan art of Witcher2, one of my favorite game of 2011, and to celebrate the incoming Witcher 2 console version!
    I've already posted the images of Geralt last year. The project was started as a way to learn Zbrush last year. Since then, I worked on and off of the project. When I learned some thing new about Zbrush or sculpting, I tried to use it on the project. Thus the project has since expanded quite a bit.
    Almost everything was done in Zbrush, with the only exception being Geralt's weapon belt and the ropes on the troll, which were done in 3dsMAX as a way for me to learn and test GoZ.
    The images were straight Zbrush BPR, and photoshop was only used to add a little touch on the background and to add the yellow latern light.
    I'll post the original BPR images later when I have time.
    As always, C&C are greatly appreciated, and thank you for stopping by.

    @asecbrush
    Thank you, Sir. I really appreciated.

    Here are the original BPR render and the small touch in Photoshop used to compose one of the final image.

    And below are some Zbrush screen grabs without polypaint.

    I was trying to render out a turntable movie straight from Zbrush, but it seems the movie will need a week or so to render.......
    I don't have confidence in my computer running Zbrush for days without crashing, so I'll probably just render the characters as separated turntable movies.
    I'll post those later along with some close shot on characters. Thank you for stopping by.

    I really like the amount of small details that both characters have on their equipment.

    @Orantos: Thank you.
    @AngelC: Thank you for the kind word.
    @Arthaven: Thank you, Will. If I made any significant progress in the past few months, that's all because of the hard work you, Ryan, and Cesar have put into Zbrushworkshops and creature design masterclass. I am looking forward to Anatomy 2R2 class.

    Here are the images of the troll and its turntables. All rendered in Zbrush. Thank you for stopping by.

    Really dig it. Perhaps you try for some more drama in the scene: possibly a menacing confrontation, or one of the figured poised to strike, but that's just nit picking. Good work.

    @Nichollya: Thank you. I kinda like this troll in game, and I don't want Geralt to hurt him! Hehehe, I kid. I think you are right, I should put some time into posture study.
    @tyrellcorp: Thank you.

    Here are the images of Geralt and the turntables. Took me around 4 or 5 hours to render the turntable. I wonder if it's normal or if I can optimize the render time in Zbrush like what I heard people would do with Mental Ray......
    The new material blending in BPR is really cool. I redid/repainted the materials on Geralt after the release of 4R2 because of this feature.
    And fibermesh makes me want to redo his hairs...... But I guess I probably should move on and do it on my next model first.

    maybe the turntable rendering was slow cause of shadow rays. How much are they set at and shadow resolution? If 1 normal render takes quite long and you don't change any of the settings , the turntable will take X times as long as the 1 render. 30 frames per seconds (16 seconds , 16*30 = 420 frames).

    1440 seconds = your 4 hours . 3.4 seconds to render 1 frame (probably half size) , so did your normal render take 7-10 seconds? in that case , it's normal.

    @The Namek
    BPR shodow rays was set to 12, and res was 4096. I think these are default settings. I only changed angle to 20 and GStrength to 1. Then I built my LightCap on top of that, and the LightCap contains 3 lights, which all cast shadows.
    I just tested. 1 frame took me around 20 to 40 seconds to render. I guess the render time of the turntable movie is normal, then.
    Thanks for the answer, Namek.

    Long time no update. I think it's time to start posting some thing to help myself document and track my progress of learning.
