Just use a new mesh ball for hair......

....Also don't forget you can paint to the bump map!! You can use "Combine color and bump" along with a nice hair texture to add tons of detail. Or you could try adding it in Blender

very nice!! Also, Watch my vid in This thread on using textures in Paint Mode. Sculptris lets you paint to the Bump/Normal map .... can get a lot more detail there !!!

    Default another...

This is very addicting. Doing the hair with a mouse is not easy..I think I will look into buying a tablet or stylus...any suggestions?

    Default wavy hair

Quick sketch. This time I did not use a 2nd sphere for hair.

Looks like it's coming along nicely !!, Might I also suggest Meshmixer, or Wings3d. You can do an extract and add layers. There's no rule in Sculptris that your model has to be manifold (like closed or solid). Wings3D and Blender will also support transparency, meaning you can paint the hair you want to see on a texture, and the rest will be invisible!! This is how the old-school Poser hair works !!

@justadeletedguy Thanks. Some time ago I did try blender, but the UI was just too complicated for me. 3d wings is free, but the free version does not include all the features.
For box modeling I try to use modo. Looking at some hair styles Im starting to think that it may not even be possible to do some of them.

all Wings3D is free .... if you want the extra plugins .... get it from Manifold Lab Here's some video tutorials on Wings3d Basics.

Here's a really good vid on Blender hair .... not mine .. sorry volume is way down ..... but it's really a good vid and Blender Still has better Hair in my opinion !!!

Well I think I could run the trial edition endlessly in a virtual machine, but I have never seen a nice wavy hair done with the new fibers. The fibers
    qualify as mustaches.
