Very very nice!!!
Why not a pure 3d?
@Michalis:
Why do some paint with oils and another with watercolor?
This is just what I am doing now. I have been working in 3D for over 25 years ... Alias Sketch, Power Animator, Electro Gig 3D, Maya (Beta tester) C4D (Beta tester) Xfrog, Modo. They are all a different paradigm from Zbrush which I am still learning.
Even when I was working in other 3D apps I was mostly doing abstract works. I guess if I want photo real stuff I take a photo (have a look at my website) , I am also a very good compositor I was using PS when it was in alpha and before that I used Barco Creator on a Unix Workstation.
All this could change of course.
Cheers my friend!![]()

Watercolor is my favorite medium LOL
In 3d apps sculptris is my equivalent to a watercolor medium. Direct and fast as hell.
Anyway lot of fur is coming soon, I was just saying.
Great images, whatever medium you use. And your 2.5 d creations are getting better and better.
Hi Michalis,
I think you hit the nail on the head ... I love 2.5D because it is like a sketch ... quick and forgiving, and the great things is that I have all the tools if I want to re-visit these themes and give them a shot in 3D.I feel so lucky to be part of this Zbrush community and have such talented and caring neighbors like yourself. In 35 years as a professional photographer I really never experienced the kind of sharing as there seems to be among painters, Illustrators, animators, sculptors! Sad but true.
Thanks so much for your opinions, guidance and friendship! David![]()

Hey Chalkman.....I like your blue sketch so well I am using it for wallpaper on Desktop....That should explain how much I like that one in particular....
as for painting hmmm I was taught at U of Maine that ALL mediums are the same, that is they are there for you to express yourself with whatever works best...
Me I like Sulptris for the beginning bringing an idea to life and then any other app available to further explore and to polish it for presentation......
Of course that doesn't mean I allways do that, ( chuckle snarf snarf )

Hi Deke,
So glad you liked that piece from my Blue Period!I am honored that you chose to use it on your desktop. You are totally right about different mediums, all that matters is the results!
I have to delve a bit more into Sculptris ... so many apps to learn. I worked for quite some time with Maya and I demoed it here in New York when it first came out. I also use C4D and Modo.
All the best, david![]()

The Proof is in the Pudding..Luv it..
Hey David...Really like that last one posted...Doesn't remind me of anything reprentational...Just pure design that has a Great rhythm and flow to it, and is placed in a great composional space where both negitive space and positive space enhance and compliment each other..Very appealing to the eye,..at least to mine anyway..Excellent...
Glenn
Hi Glenn,
You don't recognize an oscillating anchovy pulverizer when you see one!Glad you liked that one .... I hope the work is not getting stale, I am trying to keep them interesting. As I said earlier they are really sketches and hopefully they are pleasing to the eye .... but mostly they have to please me!
Have a Healthy and Joyous New Year and keep up the great work .... I like the way that last image is coming along, the trainer is going to be a nice element. How about a guy in the background skipping rope, that should be a challenge for getting the motion blur right .. but you are up to the job.
Cheers, David

Hey...About Staleness...Sketches and Finished works.... Alot of the time, in fact most of the time,..sketches have the life, energy, and emotional impact that is often lacking in what some might think to be finished pieces..Alot of the Old Masters, and New Masters works speak cleary to that fact..Not in every case, but in alot of them none the less.
About Self Pleasure..What's the point in doing otherwise, unless in trying to prove something to someone else,..Your record and works speaks for itself..Nothing to prove to anyone except yourself..Just my personal opinion there, for what it's worth..
Skipping rope..Been in the back of my mind..I was studying the action the other night as I watched a documentary on the TV ..PBS station...It was on a boxing gym in Texas..Had a woman boxer skipping rope in it...The scene went by too fast...but gave me the general idea of how to maybe do it in a similar way as I did that speed bag motion piece a few days ago...Will be a good challenge for sure,...and after all, what's life without a good challenge once in awhile..![]()
I hope that You and Yours have a Great and Joy Filled New Year Ahead also David..and also,.. many thanks from me for helping me out along the way in my thread...Keep Inspired and Inspiring..
Glenn
