    #4 in a series of new work. 2.5D painting with repeats of different tools laid down in different ways utilizing different materials. Often I warp shapes with snakehook brush. Lately I have been converting the resulting color image into monochrome and then painting back the original colors selectively at different degrees of opacity.

    I like it, but I find the amount of negative space in the overall layout to be a bit jarring. With such an interpretative piece I think this would either benefit from going either all or nothing. Cropped all up inside with very little negative space letting the positive space and forms draw the eye in different directions or pull the camera way back to invoke a greater sense of size from the viewer's point of view.

    Eh...it's all interpretive so take it or leave it.

    @beta_channel:

    Good advice! Actually most of my other pieces fill the frame more than this last one .... i was caught up in my excitement for this new direction I have been taking!

    Cheers, David

    Hi Blue,

    Thank you so much for having a look .... glad you enjoyed the work! I have really been enjoying myself since I overcame my reluctance to post my images here. I don't yet have the chops to do a good representational sculpt but there are so many amazing artists here that are doing that already so what the heck .. I will just do my thing!

    I really love your Dragon on black ... will have more time this weekend to do your thread justice.

    All the best, David

    i enjoy watching your exploration, and that there is a development from one piece to the next. i have not yet tried out 2.5d much yet, but you do wonders with it... i like the last one a lot, since it has a solidity which makes a good earth bound feeling... the third above , the "hairy" one, looks intersting from the aspect of how you did it, but is to me too confusing to the eye for me. the post before that(#4 in the series you called it), is one of my favourites, it leaves alot of room for imagination, there are stong shapes to suggest, and the colorscheme is great. and i love the composition of that.. i know, i will look forward to what you create, its a joy to follow.

    @kokoro:

    Thank you so much for your kind words, I am glad that you have been following my "journey" with Zbrush. I am flattered, as I really admire your sculpting skills ... your work is very beautiful and moving. One day I hope to have more of a handle on sculpting as well. Cheers, David

    I just checked out your blog ... quite a varied background! I enjoyed your real sculpts and drawings as well ... and the math ... way over my head.
