Getting closer to the idea I want to do with the model in photoshop. Probably going to cheat on this one pretty extensively, because doing the rigging properly in Zbrush would take me years. Shhh... Don't tell anyone...

Thanks Gary.
This is the basic concept of where I'm going. Still tweaking like crazy in PS and may even do a different render for the final image.

A different effect here. Not sure which I prefer.

looks a bit saturated - foggy on this end - cant see all the detail you put in the ship - think i like the smoke in the second one better !!

Hey Gary thanks for your comment. I inverted the ship colors as an experiment to get it looking more "ghostly", but you're right it does lose too much detail that way. I like the smoke effect better this way too. I just need to figure out exactly what to do with the ship itself. When I placed the original model in there it looked way to much like a toy boat, but I expected that. It's just a matter of tweaking it till I find something I like. At least it's easy to do a u-turn in Photoshop. In fact I was just looking at some Da Vinci sketches in google and I'm definitely going to be using the base model in another illustration after I'm done with this one. It means some major modifications to the model, but hey this is the Zbrush forum hehe. I'm starting to feel like I might get banned for posting more Photoshop work than actual Zbrush stuff
.

Last update for tonight. Think I may have the ship nailed down now. And I finally remembered to add some rigging lines!

Morning update. Added lightning and toned down the rain effect a touch to to bring out the layers underneath a little more. Also toned down the fog.

Hi VoodooDad
Wild theme..I like it
Just a passing thought on my part...You might try taking it back into ZBRUSH, and try adjusting the sliders in Preview Shadows in the Render section of ZBRUSH...Sometimes that can have a dramatic effect in the piece...And then maybe even a little polypainting on top of that while your there.....I just did what I just wrote with a piece that I was working on a couple of days ago, and just posted the result in my sketchbook, so you could see and have a better idea of what i'm talking about..Check it out when you have time to...might spawn an idea for your own piece..maybe even one that niether of us has even thought about yet...who knows...strange how things work out sometimes, when one idea leads to another, which is always the case...seems like anyway..

The lighting in the link above of his view into a harbor might be an interesting way to capture a feeling of a Dream with a ghost ship kind of feeling..Lots of Atmosphere and a back lighting silhouette effect can give it a dreamy ghostly feeling..Just another thought that crossed my mind..might be useful to you in some way..who knows..
Keep Inspired and Inspiring VoodooDad.

Hey Glenn, glad you like the theme. The model actually is polypainted already. You can kind of see that in post 228, but somewhere in my tweaking back and forth it got those weird white highlights. I'll have to check but I don't think I changed the model's orientation in Zbrush after the last render so it won't be too hard to relight it there. I always have problems getting a model moved back into exactly the right position once I've moved it. The backlighting idea is a good one though and I'll try to pull that off today.

Brought the colors back into the ship and messed with the clouds a little. I think the ship may still need to be blended with the background a little.

If I may, I'd like to give you my two cents on your recent render of the Pirate Ship -
I have to say, the overall concept - BAD@$$.
The "but" for me, is that you didn't do more with the scene within Zbrush itself.
You have proven to be very proficient with Zbrush, so why rely so heavily on Photoshop? Ya know?
Again, this is a very cool piece, and a really bad@$$ concept.
Keep it up man, we all love seeing what you come up with next!
(in cheesy pirate voice) AAARRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHHH (sorry, I mean, there was a pirate ship - besides, you did it in your mind too)

Corey, thank you so much for the great compliment! I am leaning pretty heavily on PS. Mostly because a really complex scene like this would tax my patience and my system to the limits. I could do the buildings in Zbrush, but it would take forever to get the details in there soooo there you are... I've always been more of an illustrator than a sculptor, so I'm creating these things (at least the ones that are fairly far back from the camera) at a relatively low detail level and then photoshopping what I need to be there.
One more thing Corey... Pirates go "AAARRRR!". "AAAARRRRGGGGHHH!" Is Charlie Brown trying to kick a football.(and yes, I have been doing that since I started this sculpt)
Setting up for my next illustration. I'll go back to the great flood when I'm sufficiently rested from tweaking it. This is the Da Vinci thing I mentioned several posts back. The weird background color is just for aiding image extraction once I take the render to PS.
