    Default Ambient Shade 2011 Sketches

So while I wait for the magic link, I figured I would start a new sketchbook and see how posting images in the new forums work.

I've been working on this skull the last few days. Yeah, another skull. I started this a while back actually, but like many of my models, it managed to get lost in the pile. Rediscovered it and decided to finish it up.

The sculpting is mostly done here, I think. Of course I'm open to suggestions and critique from anyone that thinks something looks off. I'm sure I'll find some areas to tweak here and there the more I stare at it.

This model will serve the basis for a few different concepts I have going - one I'm quite enthralled with and will be posting bits of it here soon. Mostly tho, I built this to begin what will be an on-going anatomy study project, at least for a while. I'll be adding muscles to the skull (each as separate tools), and it will gradually grow into a full skeleton with full muscular system.

For now I'm just focusing on the skull, as I need it for another character I'm building. A textured version will follow soon. Comments are most welcome.

here's the (first) textured version. I'll likely do another texture for it later. Mainly this was for practice painting, as I've never actually painted textures by hand before, have always relied on stitching photos together. This took about 2 to 3 hours and is just a best render. Didn't do any compositing or any of that stuff as I'm still learning all that.

Looks pretty good to me . The hairline cracks do a lot of sell it; maybe you could add some more where the naturally occur (like on the bridge of the nose).

Thanks Midost. Yeah, I'm not happy with the bridge. Seems too smooth. I'm gonna do some more work with it.

Deviated from the models I've been working with to experiment with the new R2 features.

Started sculpting this frog guy with a base dynamesh sphere. Pulled his head and torso from that then attached cylinders for his upper arms with the new Curve Tube brush. I'll add his lower arms and legs the same way. Its a character that's been in my head for a while so now he gets to live.
