Exclamation !HELP! How do I create a repeating Hard Surface Detail with cuts? Please Read

I'm attempting to create a series of even cuts down the surface of a plane evenly spaced from eachother so I may create a panel of grating similar to this one. http://www.flickr.com/photos/60108153@N05/6080783019/

How would I go about doing this so I may have a perfect piece of wall detail? Thanks a lot.

How do I create an alpha for a part of the mesh that has been cut out? Also, how do I make it repeat without manually stamping something over and over again? I need them evenly spaced from eachother. Thanks.
