Some very interesting and unusual textures Joe...Some definite indications of ventricular trouble, not to mention the foreign object insertions...

The grey alpha texture in the front is really unique...I think you could produce quite a painting with a full screen of that, followed by Shading Enhancer used to define shapes, followed by slow colour build-up...

SC the area in front is not an alpha texture but the result of using the sharpen tool on the area. It did turn out to be unique looking area. Thank you for your suggestions.

I thought I'd give you some support on your new direction. Your original work is quite interesting and as Christos said you have enough talent to produce good stuff.
