    Default Recent Works Dump

    Hello All

I have not been posting much recently as I was so busy wrapping things up at my work place. Any how, I was also trying to improve my sculpting skills. To do so, I set a mission to do sculpting on a daily basis ranging from 15 minutes to 2 hours depend on my a daily availability.

Some of the pieces are the results of my Sculptris' beta testing, mostly in conjunction with ZBrush.

    001.jpg
Day 1: A Practice Sculpt (not for commercial usage) that took about 40 minutes to create. This one was designed by master manga artist and painter... Katsuya Terada Katsuya... I was using Sculptris Beta for some of the base meshes and use ReMesh A lot for recreating quads.

    002.jpg
Day 2: Tonight's practice sculpt... Still so amazed at Master Terada Katsuya's dragon. So here I am sculpting the slumbering dragon which can be found on the page 15 of the Book (ISBN4-7572-0885-5) The base of the head was done in Sculptris, with the horn created using ZSphere... A fun work flow with GoZ between the two apps.

    Day 3: An Evil Wizard
A Quick Sculpt t about detailing but utilizing ZKetch and other tools.

    004.jpg
    Day 4: The Bone Lord

This one is a oractice of using 2 applications; Sculptris and ZBrush...using Sculptris to create the base mesh and ZBrush for minor hard surface polish and horn stuff. Detailing is done in both Applications as well.

This has been modified from the original design by Terada Katsuya (The original can be found in his book ISBN4-7572-0885-5 on page 798)

    005.jpg
    Day 5: Earful Bat

Try to work with Sculptris alone with its unique technique of sculpting. The whole thing was just a ball and simply stretching and squeezing to get the form. This one's set as the least given time (15 minutes) As the goal is to simply establish form and nothing else

    006.jpg
    Day 6: Dr. Gero...
The evil scientist. The modified human bot from Dragon Ball Series.

Today practice is about making some wrinkles..Sculptris and ZBrush were used. Same technique... Mesh base in Sculptris, RemeshAll, and some Retopology works.

    Day 7: Peek-A-Boo
This is a model of The Pale Man from the film El laberinto del fauno (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0457430/) which I think the design is super awesome.

For this practice. I was trying to

    1. Use sculpting with gravity / force to emulate the skin folds/hanging and such.
    2. Posing the model with regular Transpose Tool.

This is another quick piece as well.. About one hour total from Sculptris to ZBrush.

    008.jpg
Day 8: A Bug with Transparency Wings

Found some cool bug designs at http://www.creaturespot.com/main/2011/4/29/bugs.html by ALICE DUKE for testing ZBrush's own Transparency.

For this pretty much the modeling part was done with Sculptris with Wings and little spikes were done using ZSphere. Coloring/PolyPainting was done in ZBrush and BPR was used for rendering out transparency.

    009.jpg
    Day 9: Hyena

This one I got an inspiration form my own dog (Spartan) who's sick and the sickness made him look like a Hynena. The main reseaon is to sculpt base quadrupal creature to be used for my Himmapan project. The modeling was done in Sculptris (http://www.pixologic.com/sculptris/) and ZBrush with very crude material linkage in Modo (in the project...the fur shoudl look much better than this as the fur on this test subject's only 30 minutes in map creation / combing)

Day 10: Strange Missing Link..... (Wanna play?)

This one I got the reference off the internet by Patricia Piccinini, here's the link of more of her works (http://miraikezia.blogspot.com/2010/...-patricia.html)

I did take a liberty and change something a bit.... I thought he looks kind of like .. Meerkat... creature.. I saw in my local zoo awhile back.

Anyhow, the practice today is just quick stretches on Sculptris and the move fourth to ZBrush utilizing ReMesh features.. Some of the areas didn't come out as good as I projected...

And the n UVMaster's used to produced a reasonably all right UV Layout... Then off to Modo for a quick test on the hair.

Still more tests need to be performed, but I'm done with this subject.. As you can see there are lot of artifacts still as the mesh I sent over to Modo was about 6000 polygons and the details were recalled using Displacement Mapping Technique.

Note: The Tricycle's an asset from Modo Library.

    011.jpg
Day 11-13 Hard Surface with Ironman Mark I

Been putting off practicing Hard Surface modeling in ZBrush for quite sometime as most of the time if I ever in need of modeling hard surface stuff I'd do it in Silo or Modo. This session took longer than most... 2 hours total with no detail whatsoever.... Just the shape and form. All elements were created in ZBrush using mask/extract, Shadow Box, and Primitives.... Quite a fun session.

    012.jpg
Day 14: Cell, one of my Beta test images for Sculptris

I did this one as a testing on the software Sculptris. This one I did everything in Sculptris. (So far there are about 630,000 Triangles) The system used for sculpting and creating limps and such is quite intuitive. A bit different from that of ZSphere. This one I didn't push further as there will be more fun sessions in Sculptris soon.

Please note the horrible sculpt on the biceps > Still trying to get used to the app.

Day 15: Axolotl with ZSphere Madness
This 15 minute teaching session today for my students will serve as my 15th session but I shall continue this piece tomorrow as I quite fond of this creature...Axolotl already (Don't even know how to proper pronounce this sucker!)

This session exhibits the use of ZSphere to create the main form and the gill area. Within 5-15 minutes you will get a good shape start especially for organic creature like this one.

Once the form is set I can adjust the topology a bit in my application of choice in this case, Modo. And back to ZBrush again (Tomorrow perhaps!)

    More info about this guy...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Axolotl

    014.jpg
    Day 16: Axolotl testing

Just a few minutes sculpt work on Axolotl creature...the creature's very minimalism in the essence....But I quite like how his appearance is. Basically a test to study SSS in ZBrush.

    015.jpg
Day 18: Axolotl > Love at first sight.. A ZBrush Render
Added the second Axolotl to the file.. Now the last one would be female and the dark one is a male Axolotl. See the white one's a bit shy?

this one I used BPR with all maps generated for com-positing.

    Day 19: Translucency Testing

A Render off Luxology Modo for testing the Translucency and a bit of transparency on the Axolotl skin. ZBrush was quite useful to be used for painting translucency map.

    018.jpg
    Kilowog

Modeled in Sculptris and ZBrush and rendered in Modo.

Thank you so much for the comments.

Today I did a test render of the Ironman with 3D Anaglyph effect and this is what I have so far.

Really nice Anaglyph render. However I have one crit - the left arm - I think the red and blue renders are too far apart, any chance to bring them closer? It's creating the 3D effect, but I think they are at a "breaking point" where my eyes can't compensate for how far apart they are. This I find especially true by the time my eyes try to look at the finger tips.

@Tegrem you are right.. I think I might have set the convergent distance a bit too high. Will definitely look into that. Again thank you so much for viewing and good critique.
