this is a study piece, for learning sculpting and lightning, and so i chose my favourite artist as "teacher" :-) ... i know i am very far from the original, but hey i think i learned a lot from trying to follow him as closely as i can...
modeled in zbrush, head is retopologized from a dynamesh to get the lines clearer, dress and veil are dynameshes, belt and band are extract meshes... rendered with cycles. i hope you enjoy.

BTW, what happened to the veil? Lot of holes. Too thin for dynamesh?

thanks, michalis :-) ... well, i dont know actually... from time to time dynamesh is doing this, even on a sphere, which hardly can be too thin... it occurs mainly when i change the resolution for dynamesh.

Beautiful job on the Michelangelo Pieta study...Excellent job of capturing the Emotion.. Luv the way the cloth drapery came out also..
Hey, I searched yesterday for about an hour trying to find a set of Fatmiri's matcaps that were tailor made for this pieta study of yours....They were a set of Marble matcaps..really nice marble look to them...there were about six of them..each having a subtle variation to it..really looked like real marble..the kind that Michelangelo used in his works....They used to be in the Matcap Repository...Can't for the life of me figure out why they would be taken out of there,..they are really beautiful to work with when doing marble sculptures like the study that you just did.
Anyway, if you ever come across them, I think you would really enjoy working with them...Just thought I would mention them..Who knows,...they may still be out there, or should I say in here somewhere..but I sure couldn't find them..Maybe I was just looking in the wrong place..been known to happen..
Keep up the great work and studies Kokoro,.. Always an Inspiration, and a real pleasure for me to see those Master studies of yours..

wow, glenn, thank you so much for your efforts, i do appreciate very much :-) ... i try next time make better marble :-) with this piece my focus was on modeling and lightning, and, as i seem be able only to concentrate on making one, or maybe two, things well at a time, i neglected the marble this time... but next time will be better, i hope :-) ... and, yes, more studies of the masters will come, i feel i learn a lot from doing these. in the works is a bernini study...:-)

yes, title says it all... except that i choose a different background than the original in the cornaro chapel... tried to get a better marble effect, maybe it is a tad too "noisy" for a sculpture ?

@ kokoro After looking at some of your wood carvings I see what you mean about the planes and edges.....
I was looking at my horse and the texture just reminded me of a wood like surface and thats how it became a wood carving..
