This one is a sculpt I did a long time ago but more recently decided to finish it off for my reel. The original concept is from Pete Jacksons King Kong. The Udasaur is one of the species of water based creatures living on Skull Island.
I had some people interested in some specifics of the workflow so I attached some wips. Basically I made a base in XSI sculpted it to a mid level detail then did the scales and high frequency stuff with HD sculpting. I also used the HD to polypaint, Its the first time I used the HD feature and right now I'm finding it a really powerful tool for painting and sculpting, and I'll definitely be using it for my next project. Final render in mental ray for Maya with SSS shader, final render size 4500 x 2543, render time 45 mins and Ztool polycount 11million. Any other questions I'd be glad to answer or drop me a mail.
Cheers
Dan
