    Default Can't paint imported model

I've tinkered with Sculptris for awhile now, but it occurred to me one thing it would be pretty great for is reskinning existing models without having to recompile them and their animations. (most of my 3d work is for game mods). especially with it's easy learning curve.

The problem I'm having is I can get the model to import just fine, when it asks to go to paint mode, I simply set the texture map size to match the existing UV (otherwise it would crash). But I can't paint it. Nothing happens, acts like the whole thing is read only. If I load the texture, it UV maps fine, so that part works, I just can't modify it in any way.

If I import the model without UV, I can paint it normally. Anyone have any suggestions for why this might be?

    Default

I think the issue has to do with normals and grouping. Apparently the forum doesn't like my posting images (as it keeps changing the url ), but here's a little more info. (and two attached images)

The model when loaded into paint looks almost like it's made of silver with the default material, (this is without actually loading it's texture file). Parts of it are bright white, others black, and others in between, but the shading doesn't seem to have anything to do with the model geometry. Changing it to Normal makes it obvious something is quite wrong. from how it appears, It looks like it has something to do with grouping.

I've tried pretty much every combination of OBJ export options in Blender (normals, no normals, HQ normals) with no luck.
