    Post Hmmmmmm...

Well, I got ears now almost (I just noticed the indent next to the eyes on both sides of the head, doh! And my head shapes are not as crisp as Uphams but at least they don't extend to the great divide anymore ...but, am I missing a setting in ZBrush that will stop the nasty aliasing that happens? On the following image I cleaned up most of it in PSP. Or is the process to clean them up in other image editing software?

And what do most of you have your mouse avg set to. I went as high as 3 but it seemed like I had more wrinkles instead of less.

Oh, and I know this guys got lips but it's different creating lips when you start with your sphere3d in the correct rotation so I have to get used to it again.

Soon as I take those dents out of my head tool I'll start working on some satisfactory hair.

Hi Vikki, the head is coming along very nicely!
About the mouse average, I usually do most of the modeling at 1, 2, or 3. However when I'm doing deep grooves or steep hills, I set it all the way to 8. Her is an example of what 1, 3, and 8 look could look like:

    Hope this helps.
    Edit:

Hi Vikki . . . Your coming right along.

"Am I missing a setting in ZBrush that will stop the nasty aliasing that happens?"
    When I render my final rendering, I use these settings in my "Render / Modifiers / Antialiasing", - ( Blur=25, Edge=5, Size=4, Super Sample=2 or 3 ).

I use a screen size of, ( Document / Modifiers / Width=1500 / Height=1125 ). That seems to work best for me. If you can't work in those sizes, then work in a lower size, save all your objects, use "Markers" to remember the positions of all your objects, & when your done with all your modeling, switch to a larger screen size, clear each layer one at a time, & load each saved object using the placed "Markers". The larger the screen size, the clearer the image will be.

"And what do most of you have your mouse avg set to?" I use a Mouse Avg of "8", & it works well for me. I've tried different settings, but always returned to "8".

One of the reasons for the "Wrinkling" of the surface of an object during modeling, is that certain area does not have enough polys. If you draw a Mask in the certain area your working on, then invert the mask so that area is lighter in shade, you can use the "Tool / Modifiers / Deformation / Divide" to get a much higher poly count for just that certain area, & it usually results in smoother shapes around Mouths, Eyes, Ears, etc.

I hope this helps you some? Have a good one . . . Mark.

Oh brother! "Edge=5" Doh! In my crooked way of thinking I was thinking the higher the number the *more* anti-aliasing. It's been such a whirlwind since last Sunday that I couldn't for the life of me figure out what had changed. Now that you mention it of course I started always turning the "edge=100".

Thank you both for the tip on the mouse avg. That helped tremendously.

I'll start trying out turning up the screen size and doing the divide for my mouths. So, with great thanks to all and extra thanks to Upham for the absolutely perfect head, eyes, ears, nose tutorial....here is my head.

Look Ma! He's even got jaws!

I can see that practice and *writing down the recipe" will improve my skills.

Now it's time to start on the rest of the project. I'll fix his poor lips in the final product when he has a body to go with him.

Anyway, thanks again y'all. You've been terrific!

    Hey thanks to you all!

Practice, practice, practice...and then look, look, look and then....feel your face...how exactly are your eyes made? Oh shoot...your eyebrows are at the top of the original socket so you must build the eyelid from within the socket not on top of it. Then feel just under your nose...oh that's why his mouth looks wierd (aside from fat lips), we have extrusions from the bottom of our noses to the upper lip. Oh and heaven forbid, take a side view...boy a side view is very deceiving compared to a front view.

Yes, my family thinks I've lost my mind when they see me walking around feeling my face and making imaginary lines on it with my fingers trying to line up tops and bottoms of ears, cheekbones to the nose and on and on. And they're really unnerved when I stare at their profile. hehe!

I swear, I can't remember when I've had such a good time and got such a "feel good" from software and you all here at ZBCentral are the icing on the cake.

Ok, back to work now on my project.

    Wink

...A true artist has awakened and come of age!

I know how ya feel, Vikki! This software is THE most addictive, FUN, and downright educational piece of software I've EVER had my hands on. I can't stop thinking about using it when I'm not able to use it, due to other obligations and responsibilities.

Can't wait to see your next project!
