    Post Uphams Dog

I only had half an hour to ZBrush yesterday and managed to talk a friend into letting me use his copy of Poser since Glen seems to be having so much fun with it. So I saved a lot of different poses to play around with in ZBrush and also the poser dog, which I managed to make a good likeness of my own dog with it...

(A Nova Scotian Duck Tolling Retriever)

As I said it was a half hour experiment with importing Poser models and playing around with them. I should of played with lights and a background but I ran out of time, (Sports on TV). I'll have another bash at it today with the human models I saved.

Upham, that is a MUCH better looking dog than I've ever seen rendered by Poser by itself. Nice work!

    More Experimenting...
I like it when you import a poser mesh into ZB and you get a colour wire frame when its in dots mode.

Just havin fun. (I wish wireframe was a off/on option.)

Oh I love it! I tried to do one of my dog's head the other day, it wound up looking like a sick cat! That is so good upham! I'm going to try again this weekend.

Just posting more Poser -> ZBrush experimentation.

    1. ZBrush is cool for importing poser heads and then mucking around with them and then painting them ....

    2. But ...

I got some damn annoying results when I was painting the model!
No#1. This was the final unwrapped texture map showing how screwed up the paint placement was.
No#2. If I painted on the other side of the face I ended up with big steaks across the face! (here you can see I've painted a bit of brown above the ear, and it streaked across the face!) You can also see a deep "seam" above the ears where the back & front of the head join. This appeared when I divided the polymesh.

Also: the eyebrows and lips seemed to import as a seperate texture region. I've heard you talking about different UV importing/exporting but didn't understand it even then. Pixolator, if you read this, any chance you could enlighten me??
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Upham ,
When importing a Poser model, you need to reduce the Tool Inventory TRI2QUAD to zero in order to keep the point/polygons and UV coordinates intact. A discontinued texture region caused the ‘streaking’ problem that you have experienced and this has been updated in 1.23
ZBrush does not (yet) support multiple textures per object, at this time, you can either use any UVMapping tool in order to reposition overlapping texture regions, or ‘break’ the model into 2 separate OBJ meshes.

I will write a mini tutorial to demonstrate the proper handling of an imported 3D mesh soon after the release of 1.23

Thanks Pixolator, I'm a box of monkeys now!

It's actually quite fun painting up a model you haven't already spent an hour slaving preciously away on. It's good having a template to start with. I can concentrate on just the painting and texturing, etc.
I look forward to your tutorial on this topic. I'd be interested to know what "collinear tolerance" is. (and the weld button??) Also when you write the tut, could you explain what the red & green lines are in the imported polymesh?
    Cheers.

    Great image!

I like the body structure, kind and caring face, and alertness.
