About Alphas
Good morning
As a newbie to zbrush my quest this weekend was to learn the basics of alphas...so to this end I made a couple myself.
If anyone has any comments as to what would make them better, I would love to know (like should they be larger, or higher resolution or anything like that)
Here are a couple of samples (feel free to use them if you think they are ok)
Thanx

Create Alpha...
...with Zb is a real pleasure
And apply it an endless time :)
Your seems great !
Just a little trick : for make an "Alpha tilable" (useful for the skins)
Use the Tilde "~" so you can move the drawing on the canvas, redraw on the hole , use the tilde etc...
At the end you will obtain your personal tilable Alpha!
This key tilde is different from the country keyboard (in French keyboard that is the % key)
Have fun Zbrushing exploration!

Aha...so there is something....are tileable alphas preferable to ones with a "soft fuzzy" edge like I made with those above?
If so, what would be the best way to apply them so they dont appear as a square shape plopped on the surface fo the figure? So far I have been playing with the spray brush, is there a better way to apply them?
Thanx

Rawn,
Experiment with the RF slider under the Alpha menu. It lets you create a variable circular mask for any alpha pattern.

ahhhh...thanx I will try that when i get home :)

I cant play with zbrush here at work, but since it is a slow day I made a couple of tileable pieces which should work as alphas if anyone wants them.
Thanx for your help :)

took a nap and woke up to this, again, wonderful suprise....thank you. Dunno how the others on the forum are about stuff like this at present, but these will definitely come in super handy. Many make their own as they work in z, but I like having a good decent library of alphas for every occasion. You are definitely adding to my own limited arsenal.
thnx again,
Ron

@ Rawnrr You are...
...a speedy cool serious student :D
Pilou

hahaha...thanx:D
I figure if i try to figure out one part at a time in this program I wont get as overwhelmed by all the different parts I see in the interface (which is scary when you first open it up....I am still afraid to touch alot of the stuff)
-
Don't be afraid ...
There is always......a fabulous Undo (for quasi anything)

Hi Rawnrr,
Try experimenting with....like Sven said turning the RF slider in the Alpha menu to about 12-15 and try the directional brush (with dragstroke)....with the falloff and directional brush it doesn't matter if it's tileable...unless of course you need it to be tileable...:D , also start with a low zintensity and build your way up until you see how they affect the mesh you are working on.
The undo button is my best friend!!!
ps...am a bit behind for my newbie challenge...I have one more zscript to quickly make and note but it will include a little bit about some alpha settings so keep an eye out for that....I am hoping to have it up for sure tomorrow dang it....takes a while to add notes to scripts tho.
hope that helps some!

Thank you, Rawnrr, for sharing these alphas with us. I'm always on the lookout for scale alphas and these look to do the trick...:D

As all of us are still learning, one might think of
this forum as a school.
This is the first time one of the students paid his tuition
first:D
Many thanks for the alpha's, they will come handy.
Somewhere buried deep in the bowels of zbrush ,one or
two artists have donated entire collections of alphas.

Thanks Rawnrr ยก
always sharing:tu:

rawnrr, don't let them catch you, lay-offs are not fun!;)
-
haha...there is a better chance of getting laid off if it looks like you are doing nothing. At least this way I can look busy ;)

Thanks
Great alphas. Very generous of you.

Question
