i finally finished machete for a showreel and my portfolio.
next time with a wireframe. but now i have to go back to my "real work"... :-/
this is realtime render in the udk
finally composed it and finished it up for a showreel...
hope, you like it:
hello there! :)
after i successfully tested my "showreel-setup" for machete i decided to render the other characters in this style, too.
composed them in a showreel hoping to get a job in the industry with it.
there are four illustrations in there, too.
hope, you like it.
it's better to watch it in hd on youtube... :-P
If your going to use that showreel to get a job, then you won't get anywhere with it.
For starters a showreel should be a maximum of 2 min's and 30 seconds, no longer, employers dont have the time to sit through 6 mins
Your using udk for your turntables which is good, but then your using fraps to record which is bad and also if you look it lighting needs to be rebuilt which is pretty bad also, it's all in the presentation you know and yours is not up to scratch and wont get you a job
The best Idea would be to use Marmoset toolbag as thats an amazing piece of kit but if your going to stick with UDK then learn how to use Kismet
I could go on more but I've prob said enough for you to go on with for the moment.
hey sparky
many thanks for your suggestions!! i will definitely shorten it!
i will throw my eye on the marmoset toolbag!
many thanks again!
please tell me me if you think the models are quality enough to use them in a showreel!
No Worries Wethand
Sorry if any of my comments seemed a little harsh, thats one thing I dont like about forums, things looks harsh when they aren't meant to come across that way.
I'll watch through the showreel again and type whilst watching it
Your opening title screen is good, the writing is clear, and 7 seconds is a good time, but you have no contact details on their such as website or email address
Then at 8 seconds is a picture of the dude you have modelled you need to mention that and also that the pic is a photo used for reference and not a concept you have done
the rotation speed of the first character is okay and the transition to the wireframe is good
Then you have the character topless, so the torso clothing is separate to the body, that is very bad practice for a games character and employers will not like that, its perfectly fine for a high poly zbrush render though
Its good that you display the poly/tri count and that it's a realtime render, (you spelt it wrong though :S)
It's then good that you showed the character in UDK rigged and tested with the UT3 male skeleton as that shows a good skill
1 min 36 seconds is far to long just for one character :S
The next character's title screen is good but missing vital information such as poly/tri count, texture maps, and the different software that was used in the making of the character ( this applies to all your characters )
It would be good to show the guy with the axe posed like his is about to slash something
when we get to the 3D illustrations with your applying for a jjob as a character artist then dont put the 3D illustrations in the showreel as they are irrelevant and employers don't see to see it
The 3 characters should be displayed for an equal amount of time at the minute they are not
Always show your best piece of work first and last, put the not so good in the middle
Your turntables need more work as they are just too plain
Render the turntables in Marmoset and then show the UDK skeleton thingy
It's also good to show the zbrush sculpt also
The music need's to change, employers will not like it
Also through the showreel you should have contact details on every clip
Your ending title page is good that info needs to be at the front ( mentioned above) and you state your a character artist yet you've put 3d illustrations in your showreel best to just put the 3d illustration on your website and not in the showreel
and remember showreel maximum time of 2 mins 30 secs
follow all that and you'll have yourself a good showreel
Blooming hell that's the longest comment I have ever written
whoa, thats a bunch of tips!!
i will work on the showreel! thank you very much for your time and work.
it will help me defnetely a lot!! :tu:
