Antropus' Sketchbook
Hi all,
since I never had a sketchbook here before and also because I'm away from forums for quite some time now, I finally decided to open a thread where I can post some personal work. Being a father is the best thing to ever happen to me, but also limits the amount of free time I have to do any personal work nowadays. Still, I'll be posting here in the rare occasions I happen to be working on something personal.
This first character is based on a painting from James Bama. His name is Roy and the likeness is still in progress.
I'm trying VRay for Maya and I'm excited about it. The SSS2 has a very natural feel to it, but I still have a ton of tweaks to do before I can start using it in other models. I also tried out the render passes from ZBrush BPR and it's quite fun.
Update 2.18.12:

Maya+Vray first render tests:
ZBrush BPR+PS:
Do you think the wrinkles are over done? Great. I think so too :)

Can never have enough wrinkles ;)
Looks great - really good balance between appeal /ugliness .

Really nice work. inspirational!
excelente trabalho, realmente uma inspiração
-
Always good to see a master ZBrusher returning to the forums.
-
Great job! i think the wrinkles are a little overkill in the non-texture/polypaint render, but the color renders it's great.

nice one Crystal
awesome chin , look like a brain in the z brush render ;) .
-
Another San Franciscan! Nice :). Cool sculpt man, the skin render is looking nice so far. The wrinkles might be a little crazy around the chin area :D but good job overall.
-
Nice to see you again on the forums Antropus! Really good news!

Great as usual :)
PS= Acompanhando com muito prazeres seus trampos, ao longo dos anos. Parabéns :tu:

Love your work. I'll be following this thread. :tu::tu:

Great work, I don't think the wrinkles are to over done. Since when you render it with the skin shader it tends to wash out and soften the details a bit. The wrinkles uniformity could be tweaked a bit. You should try out the fiber mesh system for the hair. Look forward to seeing updates!
-
Thank you so much for all your comments. I really appreciate it. I'll try to post some more updates soon. I'm retopo-ing this guy right now, so nothing cool to show :)

Some more work on the "likeness". It's based on an artwork from James Bama, so it's hard to really rely on it's interpretation. I'm only trying to recreate an impression of his brilliant work.
I quick blocked the shirt, but it will be partially covered at the end. Everything in progress. More to come at some point.
I just love VRay.

Awesome, been following this on your facebook site! :tu:
Your one of my favorite Zbrush artists ever :)
-
Great work Kris, Love it!!! What's the polycount on the sculpt? just curious ;)
-
Thank you so much, Santis!
Thank you mutte. The poly count on this render is about 700k (no displacement applied). The ZBrush model is a little under 3 million polys at this point.

Hey man, really great work as usual!!!
:tu::tu::tu::tu::tu::tu:
Let me ask something, you don't think try the new fibermesh to do his hair? :p
See ya!!
-
Awesome. :tu: Is the rendered model decimated since you didn't use displacement maps?
-
Speechless about the crazy amount of detail of his face, really and it doesn't like it is too much it looks perfect mate!:tu:

Portrait is amazing ...
... always so much life and purpose in your work Kris. Fantastic to see your post, fantastic work as a father too :)

Really amazing! :tu::tu: Really inspiring as well!

:tu: Great model! The specularity on the neck seems a bit too sharp-it looks kinda greasy. Keep us updated. We wanna see more!
-
impressive as usual , also your style and rendering is very recognizeable.
Great work.
-
Very nice Kris !
Initially I thought your portrait was inspired by this guy (James Cromwell).
