I created this Droideka using a great deal of Zmodeler, Deformers, and of course, Live Boolean. More WIP images of earlier stages of development to follow, just wanted to get this up for any feedback y'all might have.

Nice great idea! you placed the chair perfectly inside the droid
Here are some in progress screenshots of the Droideka build.
I used alot of z modleler for the arm, along with some live boolean.
here is the leg and shell, which I created by adding thickness to a fraction of a cylinder, and then modifying it with deformers.
To get the beveled look on the leg while using live boolean, I built the bevel into the subtractive mesh.
This shell piece would have been a huge pain if it werent for zbrush, but it was actually a piece of cake. I simply modeled the piece flat, removed the holes with boolean, using the subtraction bevel trick again, and then used a curve deformer.
The cut lines in the shell were created using live boolean again, I just applied my booleans, then duplicated the shell, removed the inner piece and gave a bit of thickness to the outer polygons. Then, after using the subtracitve planes on the outer layer, I combined it back into the main shell using additive boolean. I was worried that this would throw an error, but with enough overlap it worked fine.
Shout out to Exoside for making zscenemanager, because my workflow would not be possible without it.
Thank you everyone for looking, and thank you for the comment Oscar. I've had a ton of fun putting this together and learned some new tricks in problem solving for this model.
My name is Daniel Alderson Smith and here is my final entry for the Magic Wheelchair Comic Con Contest: "No Match For Droideka" It was modeled, painted, and rendered in Zbrush and composited in Photoshop.
It's instantly recognizable. I'm really impressed by the creativity of the ZBC community, coming up with all sorts of wild ideas like this which actually work. Well done.
Great work! I can easily imagine the droid maybe having some lights and a slight movement of the arms (as if it was shooting)
This is awesome! Great modelling! I've always liked droidekas.
I think this design will have the best wheelchair integration, fantastic work!!
Thank you for the kind comments! This competition has been so much fun, as everyone came up with some very cool, creative takes on a Star Wars costume. I have really enjoyed seeing the projects come togther and getting some insight into everyone’s design process. Can’t wait to see the awesome kiddos in the costumes the build teams come up with!
