water made with alpha century technique. Sky painted using a second layer. Image rendered with more red tint and slight red fog was added. DeeVee is a wonderful painter and his technique has influenced me a lot.

Hi LWTB, thanks for the compliment. One thing to add that will always make your land and seascapes better. Never divide the canvas equally in two. You should try for at least 1 third, one way or the other. In landscape painting always think in three's. I do not always do so but that is the way I was taught, and so I am passing it on to you as I was taught. Three trees always look more interesting than one, the same for rocks , and so on. I am sure you get the drift.Try the same image above but either increase the sky or increase the sea, and you will notice that the image is much more interesting to look at. Good going, you are on your way. :tu: :tu: :tu:

great tip deevee!! I lowered the water a little to see what it would look like. I think i took off a centimeter or something. http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/zbc_uploads/user_image-1013828381kzd.jpg

Well, what do you think? don't you think it is a more pleasant composition. I think so. Now try increasing the amout of water, less sky and see which one you prefer.

That is what this forum is all about. I may not be able to do it but I know how it should look. I am quite pleased that you agree, that this looks a lot better. It is OK for you to be told how to do it , but when you do it yourself and see the difference, it is stuck with you for the rest of your painting days. Now you can add a few things ,a boat, some branches, a few rocks and let us see how it develops. You have the start of something really good here.

well this will be a project for me that will take a while! Ill keep working on it and see how it develops. For now, its time for me to go to bed. I have to work on a big school project this weekend. Ill mess around with the scene a lil and see what i can come up with. Thanks so much!! I was thinking maybe a small lighthouse that is ready to turn on (since the scene is set at sunset)and a small boat.
